9.5" x 18" Square Winter Setup?

I just got off the phone with David at European Auto Source. Great guy.

I was going to get a staggered winter setup--8.5" x 18" 235/40 Front; 9.5" x 18" 255/40 Rear--but the 8.5" x 18" VMR wheels are on backorder (both the VB3s and 710s) and I need something soon.

What do you think about a 9.5" x 18" ET 22 245/40 square setup? Any concerns about running a 9.5" wide wheel in front?

The fitment calculator is below.

I live in the freezing cold upper midwest. I don't plan to drive the 1M in snow and ice if I can help it, but as long as it's dry and the roads are clear, which is most of the time, I'll be driving. Also, I'm thinking of using these same wheels for an occasional autocross or track day.

Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

no. it cant happen. Especially not one with a low offset like that.

Biggest wheel you can fit in the front is an 8.5.

The stock 1M front wheel is 9.0 x 19 ET 31, so wider than 8.5. Are you sure 9.5 won't fit on the 1M?

Edit: I'm not saying 9.5s will fit, just wondering if "Biggest wheel you can fit in the front is an 8.5" is accurate since the stock wheels are 9s. Thanks for your help.

BWAAAA DAMN!

You have an M...my bad guy <--thats me slapping my past self

If its worth it to you I run a 245 square in the winter and I never have any issues in the snow we get in Syracuse, which is baaaad snow.

Most people will tell you to run skinnier, but I think youll be fine

Any 1M owners out there with a 9.5 x 18 square setup? I'm interested to know if you like the setup or ran into any problems. Thanks!

I have that set-up but not installed yet. I wouldn't be worried David knows what he's doing.

Great. Thanks. I forgot you had these...even though I asked you about them when you posted a picture. Was thinking you had a staggered setup, but that was HERR FSTIR and he got 19s. It's all coming back to me now...

If it's still worrying you I could throw the fronts on and check for issues but it probably wouldn't be before Wednesday.

Thanks for the offer. I don't want to create extra work for you. If you were planning to do this anyway, I'd love to know how it goes. But if not, don't worry about it. I'm more interested in how the car drives with this setup and how it will perform on the track. I don't anticipate any fitment issues.

Just curious - why did you decide to go with 9.5 square instead of (a) 8.5 square or (b) 8.5 front / 9.5 rear?

I went 18 x 9.5 because 8.5's were out of stock and I always do a square set-up for winters, plus I can rotate them too.

Where are you at anyway?

Thanks for the kind words

The 18x9.5" ET22 setup with 245/40-18 winter tires tires will work for winter wheels for a 1M, it's just a little wider than the standard 18x8.5" that the 135/128 guys use!
