P3 Boost Gauge install on N55
Anyone done it? I'm 3/4 of the way done, got the boost line through the firewall but I have no clue where the line (at the DV) I'm supposed to be tapping into is.
Can anyone help plz? WHO KNOWS WHERE THE DV'S ARE LOCATED ON THIS FRICKING CAR??? Last edited by UdubBadger; 10-01-2010 at 03:21 PM.. |

I've never seen an N55 but my best advice is to follow the intake backwards. There should be a smaller pipe/hose that comes off the intake piping and it should go to the diverter valve. Lemme see if I can find a pic.

After looking a little closer, it could also be here. I can't find a big pic to save my life. But either way, it should lead from a charge pipe (like the one in this pic as it seems to lead to the throttle body) and route back into the intake somehow.

Nope. had a buddy call Terry at BMS and talk to Rixter... they are trying to figure out a new way to hook it up. Sucks cuz it's all installed and nowhere to plug it in. Oh well, guess I'll wait and pray something gets done soon. I'd figure tapping into the OBDII port would give it the info it wants like on the BMS CANtool.

it'll give it the info it needs but I'm not sure it'll give it the actual vaccum line pressure if you follow me... I think it'll just give the target boost.

pretty sure it will, isn't that how the BMS CANtool is working? Just off the OBDII port?

Unfortunately the n55 has an electronic DV located on the turbo, and no vacuum lines that lead to the manifold. Others who have used a boost gauge on an n55 have simply had a shop drill and tap the manifold.
As for the obd2 port, that will not give you anything other than stock pressure, because the tunes "trick" the ecu to keep it thinking pressure is stock.... so no good for tunes (which, tuning is the #1 reason you would want a boost gauge) We are working on a DIY solution but it may be some time still (month or 2) before we have one. -Rick Last edited by RiXst3r; 10-02-2010 at 08:36 AM.. |

It wouldn't be that much $ for a shop to drill and tap the manifold for a nipple.
Here's the part: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-15630/?rtype=10 Just double check the dia. of the vaccum hose u are using.

BMS CANtool does too. Problem is I don't run JB3 or Proceed. I wanted this gauge mostly for show though. Car is gonna be in a few shows in the upcoming months.

Well it's not like ur car is gonna be on (or under boost) during the show so......no need for the boost guage to actually read boost. Just wire up for power.

Or sell the guage to me and get lambo doors. Those are always good for HIN shows.

Why not?
The gauge does not reduce airflow watsover... just ask anyone who has one... the vents are so HUGE in the 135i, there was plenty of space for me to claim an inch... Actually, the air seems to flow harder out of the vent now because the slightly smaller area increases the velocity of the air, and lets you aim it better. Not trying to make a sale, just trying to make sure everyone knows the truth -Rick |

You could change d.On to d.Of in the CFG menu on the gauge until you get it hooked up, that way you only see the PSI led, and no digits. (its the lockout display off mode covered in the manual that came with the gauge) Or... unplug the sensor from the back of the gauge inside the vent, and it will climb to 79psi as the voltage floats... and turning your headlings on or off will make it count UP or DOWN... thats how I get pictures of the gauge showing whatever PSI I want ... an undocumented "feature" i guess...
