Kinda funny how the announcers kept mentioning how big the M6 GTLM is. They said the 911 looks like it was in a different class and the Z4 GTLM could fit in the M6's glove box.

Taking the circumstances, 4th is a good start for new car. #100 possibly had exploded front rotor, obstructing Luhr's vision at 3am on the morning.

I was at the 1st 8 hrs of this race and last 5. There is much more work to be done on the M6's. They appeared competitive at first but as the race wore on it seemed that they lost their edge. They couldn't keep up with either the 911's or the vettes at the end. Maybe if the 100 car wasn't retired it would have been a different story.
As a motorsport fan I was very disappointed.
They were also the quietest cars in the field. I couldn't hear them at all over the other cars. Sadly even with the earplugs out. Even the eco Fords GT's had more sound which I believe are turbo sixes.
Don't know why BMW went with M6 for this class of racing. They must of had good reason.

You mean 5th.

The Bimmers were down on top speed through the whole race. It's a testament to the driver talent pool that they led as many laps as they did. Daytona is not a place you can be down on top speed and expect to do well. The poor M6 was getting run away from on the oval.

I heard that comment Had a good laugh. As I remember it, he said, "I heard each of the new M6 GT cars come with a Z4 in the glove box."

The #100 car certainly seemed to be fairing better.

Regarding the selection of the M6, I'm not sure it matters much. These cars are all developed to a weight, power, and aero specification that will produce a predictable lap time, so it doesn't really matter if they go with the M6, the M4, or an i3. IMSA will make whatever adjustments are required to keep the cars competitive.

I'm hoping to make it to Sebring this year. Had too much going on to make it to Daytona. I had a few friends there though and they said the same about the M6. They said that the sound is extremely low-pitched compared to the field. I'm wondering if it has to do with the exhaust plumbing due to the inverted head-flow turbo config.

Most of the field but for the American engines were fairly quiet. You could feel the vettes coming like, "America, f'ck yeah!!"

That's because the 'Vettes are running dat 5.5L OHV V8.

Ford GT GTLM - 3.5L (?) V6 turbo
BMW M6 GTLM/GTD - 4.4L V8 turbo
Porsche 911 RSR - 4.0L (?) F6
Aston Martin Vantage GTLM - 6.0L V12
Chevrolet Corvette C7.R - 5.5L V8
Ferrari 488 GTD - 3.9L V8 turbo
Lamborghini Huracan GTD - 5.2L V10
Audi R8 GTD - 5.2L V10

(?) indicates that I'm not certain, but it's the best of my recollection. I didn't look anything up to confirm, so please don't jump my shit if I got something wrong

Just like in F1, the turbochargers significantly muffle the sound of the engine. I didn't get to go to Daytona this year, but my friends there said that the Vette's dominated in the sound department as well, followed by the Huracan and the Aston Martin. I wouldn't call them unbiased though. They're huge Corvette fans, and they absolutely hate Porsche.

Cannot WAIT for Sebring!

Oh yeah. Standing track side, you can feel the Vette's rumble your insides. The exhaust note is out of this world, so deep sounding.
