I got a few automated phone calls, telling me to call back and each time I did, they told me "sorry, no, your car is not on the list".

Wen I checked earlier this year I was told my car wasn't on the list. I took my car in Monday for it's Two year service and was told it needed the recall work. They completed it then. I received the recall letter today.

Asked SA's at two dealerships and was told mine didn't need the work.
Let's hope it stays like that.

So far, at least, needing this has been no big deal. My e88 was built in may 2009 so I needed the recall work done and had it done with the last "free" maintenance in June. I took it in one morning on my way to work, got dropped off at work, and my wife took me to get it on the way home. Pretty painless. They would have given me a loaner if I wanted. The only bad thing on the car is the power was completely off so the presets, cumulative mileage, etc.. were all reset. Not a biggie. All my coding was intact, however.
I wouldn't worry about it. If it needs it, schedule it while you have to be there for something else or it is otherwise convenient for you.

2011-08-18 build date - got the letter today. (recall campaign no. 13V-044)
Ah, this brings back memories. My car was assigned a VIN before the August plant holiday, but it didn't roll off the line until work resumed later that month. So it seems like this recall now extends past the summer re-tooling in 2011. |

I just got the notice as well. Before, my month (August) was outside the range. I guess they have expanded it, perhaps because of enough failures outside the original window of build dates. Not thrilled but better safe than sorry.

I had my car in for service earlier this month and they automatically did the recall work. I got my notice in the mail yesterday. Mine is an early July 2011 build date.

+1, Mine was a 9/2011 build. I never got a recall notice, but I had the car in for oil change 3 weeks ago. They did the recall.

This particular recall seems to be more and more a US thing and I don't really know why/how so.

The part that caught my attention said that the defect could result in electrical system interruption "during vehicle operation, and result in engine stalling and a loss of various vehicle systems that could increase the risk of a crash." I rather appreciate BMW letting me know about this. I think I'll take them up on their generous offer to rectify the problem. It sounds like EM/1 won't be taking his car in for the fix, seeing as how he believes the whole thing is a lawyer-driven hoax. I have known of several folks who thought the same thing about seat belts, air bags and motorcycle helmets. They are no longer with us. Their misdirected anger did them in. Natural selection at work, I guess. |

Hard to say. I talked with my dealer several times in the Spring -- and they said "No you are not part of the recall."
Then, just this last week, I got a letter from BMW about he recall...
