Intro - 2011 E82 Space Grey / Boston Black

Hi, I'm Bruce. I bought a Bright Red 2.8 litre Z3 about 15 years ago. It was a great car, but I moved overseas, and it couldn't fly.

I have been without BMW for 11 years, and fell for an E82 with low km.

My only disappointment with it is the headlight aim. I took it to the dealer, and their tech said that it's perfect. I offered to take him for a drive at night. I need high beam or else I'm relying on other people's lights to show me the way.

Great forum. Hope I don't need it too much

Welcome... post pics when you get a chance.

Also, is it a 128i or a 135i? Vert, hardtop? Auto or manual? Details, please.

I’d love a 135i but alas it is the 128i, Auto, but I like stick shift. I can’t complain, it’s a pretty nice auto transmission.

Also, I prefer blue. But Space Grey is ok.

So, how do you deal with the headlights?

Personally, never had a problem with them. Someone'll probably chime who has had issues. Or search... google works better than the search engine here on the forum.

This is coming from a 128i owner with the halogen headlamps...

There are adjustment mechanisms on the back cover of the light assemblies that adjust the up/down position, I think they use a hex bit. Adjusting them, put as simply as possible, is parking the car on level ground in front of a fence or wall, and simply aiming the projected "line" to a height that is just a little less than the distance between the actual assembly and the ground.

Here's a drawing, I was bored:

Space Gray is awesome!

To the OP. I recently changed my headlights. Adjusting them is pretty easy, just loosen the top two screws, and adjust with the beam against a wall. They should be adjusted so the cut-off is essentially just below level with the light.

FYI, mine are not factory, so YMMV!

Welcome! Nice to have another Auto-magic around.
You'll find lots of good advice and how to's on here. Venture to the E90 side from time to time as so much is similar to the 1 Series.

Thanks, guys. The ragtop looks great, but it rains here for 9 months of the year. It would leak, I'm sure! My Z3 leaked. Not much, but it did leak. I thought about a VW EOS at one time. If I ever get another roadster, I'll make sure that I get a removable hardtop.

I don't know how to post photos in this forum, so I made a site.

If you click on "Portfolio", it's pretty obvious.

One way to post pics here is to use the paperclip icon in the advanced posting "Go Advanced" section. You can post multiple pics if you like as well.

Nice car, btw...

Welcome to the crew!! Car looks great. To share an image you can either use the embed option by copy/pasting the direct URL to the image, highlighting it, and then clicking the "IMG" option in the text editor bar... or you can upload it directly to the site with the options at the bottom of the screen when making a post/thread

Looks great! Sport Suspension/Seats or regular? I have an automatic 128i as well, I don't mind it. I just drive in SportMode haha.
