Rolling shot - let's see them!

I'm trying to perfect my rolling shots. If anyone else has attempted these, can you please share your photos and how you took them? Equipment, settings, etc.?

Here are a few of my recent ones...

I want to try these shots with my new camera, but It requires more than 2 people to get it done. I only have my GF and none of my friends will take the time to help me do this stuff since they are always busy. Anyone in the Socal area that wants to practice this let me know.

I have a T2i, with kit lenses but I am looking for a new lens at the moment. I have tried the Canon 15-85 and was not blown away buy it for the price. I am going to try out the sigma 17-70 OS HSM or just go big and do a Canon 70-200 IS L lens. That way I will ahve it for my 5D when I decide to take the plunge on a refurb or used one.

None of those lenses will help you with a rolling shoot, you need to have a wide angle lens like a Canon 10-20 or a Tokina 11-16. I shot the above with the Canon, but own the (better) Tokina 11-16.

Really I tried the tokina 11-16 and was not impressed with it for the money and it has no IS. Plus the distortion was a bit worse than the 15-85 I found even at 15mm. I tried to correct it in CS5, but never got it where I wanted it. Maybe it was a bunk copy. I know from reading a lot of reviews of the Sigmas Tamrons and Tokinas that people do end up with problem copies for some reason. Mostly with the AF in them not working properly and/or having CA issues. The shot of the audi was with what settings? Also which canon lens are you referring to?

The shot of the Audi was actually taken with a Sigma 10-20mm come to think of it, not with a Canon 10-20mm.

Canon 50D
Sigma 10-20mm
f/16
1/40
ISO100
16mm

Gotcha, ya I am thinking of what lens to get but I really feel like IS is important, but maybe not. How did you get it look steady at such a slow shutter speed with no IS in a moving car? I have not figured that one out yet. I tried to take some shots of random people on the freeway whiel my GF was driving and they came out ok but only with a faster shutter of around 1/200+ with the 18-55 kit lens. Her car is also a mini and rides like it has not shocks. I tried the sigma 10-20 and it was the best out of the bunch testing it along with the Tokina and tamron.

There weren't a lot that came out as sharp as this one at 1/40, I had a lot more "keepers" at 1/60. I wouldn't go much higher than that, you'll end up foregoing some of that amazing blur in the background that makes these pictures so good.

Pics were taken from an X3, so probably rides a bit softer than a Mini. I was also hanging completely out of the window, with my stomach leaning over the door. It will cushion everything a little bit.

No, trying to keep pretty still. Just matching the car which I'm shooting out of with the car I'm photographing.
