Radio sound stops after being used

I've had this issue intermittently, but I was thinking that it was from using the AUX jack (it took me 1.5 years of ownership to realize the car had a USB port! In my defense, I have no idea why BMW put a trap door to hide the plug). Anyway, while having my phone connected through the USB and playing music for about 45 minutes (relatively loud), the sound just stops. the radio operates, but there is just no sound. I turn it off for a bit and then its fine. The dealer previously mentioned that the car threw a code for an over heated amp. At least I think that's what they said as the last time this came up was about a year ago. Anyone ever have this? I'm debating replacing the amp.

Thanks

That sound like an amp problem, especially if it threw a code for it.

I have no sound in mine neither, but my sound just stoped from one day to another, everything works eaven the mic for the BT but I get no sound at all. I have tried to update the SW thru www.bmw.com/update and have replaced the amp with no result.

So I have an amp over, but I live in Sweden so I think it's easier to source one locally for you, a new one is about 1300$ i think.

Where is the amp located in the vehicle? Can you tell me the part number of the unit you have? I want to ensure it's the same unit as mine. Thanks

Sorry for late answer, the amp is located in the left rear wheel arch. You remove the bottom of the back seat and the "door" trim rear left to access it.
It's mounted on the back on the plate so you have to unscrew it to access the amp, se link below.
