Exclamation Shadowline Gloss Trim (Help!)

If anyone is like me and can't vinyl or does not like the look of it and prefers to just switch it out here are the part numbers I believe for the Shadowline Gloss Trim pieces. There are 3 on each side (6) total.

You would require the following parts:

1. 51-13-2-996-901 ROOF FRAME STRIP
2. 51-13-2-996-902 ROOF FRAME STRIP
3. 51-33-7-190-867 CHANNEL COVER,EX
4. 51-33-7-190-868 CHANNEL COVER,EX
5. 51-37-2-996-839 SIDE WINDOW, REA
6. 51-37-2-996-840 SIDE WINDOW, REA

I believe the price of all these is around 550$ But you might be able to go better at your local dealer if you are good at bartering against OEM Pricing

My question and the whole point of this thread... If I do pull the trigger, has anyone done this swap and know of a DIY or can give me tips or should I just ask a dealer?

I am very familiar with taking apart my car, but have little experience near the window trim area...

Thanks!

Looks like you will be writing the DIY on this one! Remember to take plenty of photos.

Hey Sat,

I highly recommend you just buy a roll of vinyl from BMWShadowline.com and take it to a professional vinyl wrapping shop (they'll probably charge you like 150-200).

The parts for the shadowline gloss trim are very expensive, I think the total is like $700 or something.

yep I'd just do it yourself with some high quality vinyl..
you could probably ask a shop for some black material and get it for around $50...max
and do it yourself. Save some cash

I did try the black vinyl but unfortunately I don't like the look as much and it can rip, tear, have Mico bubbles, etc.

I'm not too worried about the cost since having it professionally installed will be about half the cost of the trim pieces by themselves.

I will either ask Dan If he can get me a deal or just go to my dealer. It's the installing part that I need help with. Thanks

Just an important FYI. But on my 08 the rear window lower shadow line trim had to be replaced..and guess what. THE WHOLE REAR WINDOW had to be replaced. The shadowline trim is actually part of the window.

Yah the entire back window needs out... No DIY at all!

Stopped trying because BMW makes it impossible

Paint the trim.

Yes, that's what I'd do if I had to. I'd see a car body shop about painting the trim.

BTW, I was told at a young age.............

Realized that half of the roll had strange hair like things in the vinyl that messed up a lot of the wrapping

Called them and they are shipping out a new roll for free. Will have this professionally installed this time!

Unfortunately its a quality control instance they told me.

I am curious to hear what companies charge to wrap the trim pieces.

What do you mean? I wouldn't expect it to be free?

Found a shop locally that will do it for 75$

I didn't expect it to be free, which is why I was curious to see the quotes you heard back. The only one I have seen was twice that much. $75 seems like a steal.

Ya they normally charge 150$ but I negotiated.

I took mine to a paint shop I know and trust to see about getting the chrome shadowline trim painted. They refused to do it and said the paint wouldn't hold to the chrome.

Was curious if anyone else has actually had success with painting the trim vs wrapping it.

I think everyone has opted to go ahead and wrap theirs due to the ease and ability to reverse it at any time

If the trim pieces can't be removed, how do the shops lay vinyl on it? Seems like it would be pretty hard to do (I have the chrome trim but want to try and put vinyl over it...)

Thanks
