Help with adding Xenon headlamps?

Hi All,

I've been silently reading for ages while I waited for my 123d to arrive! It came a couple of months ago and while I love it, there is one problem; the absolutely rubbish halogen headlamps. They truely are pethetic!

I'd love to change them for a pair of xenon HID bulbs on eBay but I've read on the E90 forum that doing so will blind oncoming drivers (something to do with the way my headlamp setup will scatter the bulbs light in all directions)?
Does this ring true, if so does anyone have any other suggestion, perhaps some whiter 55w halogens I can buy?

While I'm here, is there anyway to get that "angel halo" look that my Father's 328i has?

Thanks in advance, and for all the great advice on here; it convinced me to order my 123d over 320d and I've no regrets!

what you've gather is true.
I am also a member from the E90 forum and I have a 323i which don't have xenon.
I spent over $2000 upgrade to xenon.
the retrofit process is painful but now I am happy with it.
For a 3 series, we know how to do it but not sure the 1 series is the same or not.

if you want the real OEM look for your 123d, you have to buy the factory xenon lights which will come with the angel eyes.
simply swap the lights
but you have to rewire the plug so that power can go to the xenon.
again, your computer might display an error due to xenon=35Watts and halogen=55Watts.
the computer will sense the drop of wattage and display error on your dash.
In our 3 series, we bought something called "parachute kit"
which is an error correction module that fools the car's computer your headlights are running at 55Watts.

I think your best cost effective way to upgrade is buy a pair of white color halogen bulbs.

good luck

Briliant. Thank you.
Has anyone any suggestions for good, white halogens?

EDIT: Not to worry, a little bit of research onhere told me that the Philips Xtreme Power bulbs seem to be the best. I just ordered a pair from Amazon.
