Purchase Used '08 128i or lease 2011?
Need your help, and oh btw I'm a newbie here
I have an '05 330xi. I found a (i believe) good deal on a used '08 here Now, I know I could also get a 2011 leased under their $0 down. This ends tomorrow. I just want to hear what you guys think. I drive less than 10k a year (probably more like 5-6k). Should I go for this one or for a lease? The maintenance on this 128i is up in 1/2012 versus me getting a leased one and having it for three years worry-free. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! |

wow 32 views and not a single post other than mine...
Can't decide...probably just stick with my 330xi. Wife doesn't want me to get a 2011 on lease and I think having the warranty run out in January 2012 on the used '08 will force me to buy the extended warranty. |

I'm not sure how you define a good deal, but Edmunds full retail is less than $23K. I would not buy a 1Series unless its certified. 1Series not a good reputation for reliability. I know my 2011 135 has been in the shop twice within 5 months of ownership. It sounds like you don't need another ride having a 330. Put your check book in your pocket and enjoy the 05. Oh Yes, leasing is like renting. For many, it's a way for people to get into a vehicle that they can't afford.

Can you explain what you did to get the 23k amount? It's a nice car and you must like them too if you got a 135i, right Thanks! |

Well i'm not sure. A lot of folks say i should just pocket the money i'd use on a warranty and if anything comes up post-warranty pay for it with that.
Any idea how much the extended goes for on a BMW 1-series? Of course, I'm taking it by my local BMW today to ask some questions about this one before I buy. |

I know a lot of people think the 1 has a lot of issues but my 08 128i has been flawless, the only reason mine has been in the shop is the 2 recalls and scheduled maintenance in 2 years and 32,000 miles.
That and I would never lease a car - someday I will own my 1 and not have a car payment which will be great!

Any ideas on costs to have xenons put in by BMW after the fact or is it (as I think) going to be so ridiculously expensive that I won't do it? |

Although I have had some issues, I would not rate my car as unreliable.
Plus they have 4y/50k warranties. PS. That car does not have the sport package nor does it have 5 seats |

Well, I got the car and got some good news. After picking it up I took it to my normal BMW dealership to have the key ran and see how much an extra was, only one key
They tell me the car actually has instead of 4 yr/50k warranty it has a 4.5 yr/55k warranty and that it also has an extended maintenance plan for 6 yr/100k! So i got basically around $1000-$1500 extra on this car (minus a key i'll have to get which they said is $375, ouch!) I'm excited. I really thought this had the sports package but i guess i just don't know what that entailed. I did think it was strange though when I got in it and the seats didn't seem 'sporty' but it's still really nice and I don't regret getting it for a second. Viva la 1! |

Congrats. Welcome to the one club. PS. You won't get much respect from this board.. it's slanted towards the 135, but the 128 is a great car!
