What do you think about a used Challenger or Charger?
What does anybody think of these 2 FCA products? I kind of liked the charger r/t which I had as a rental instead of the Elantra last year.
Figured challenger could be even better since it comes with a manual as well. Would you get a 2010-2012ish one?

As always, it depends upon what your desires are. The car is a ten year old design but based on the Mercedes E series at the time (from when they were commonly owned). So it is an old platform. But, of course, Chrysler has updated many internal components not the least of which are the engines.
It is not really comparable to an Elantra. The Elantra is a lot smaller and the Charger r/t is a muscle car and larger. Are you looking for a muscle car? Are you going to track the car? How do you drive? Is mpg important? Etc. |

I wouldn’t be caught dead in either one and I certainly wouldn’t waste my money on a 10yo one. I think I would take the Elantra. At least it would be reliable.
I suspect you will get a lot of replies like this one on a BMW forum. Different breeds... But, hey…to each their own… |

Consumer reports gives 2019 charger good predicted reliability.
Two recalls, instrument panel lighting malfunction, and wrong wheel tire size that may hit steering knuckle. |

even the SRT cars... its a big engine in an old outdated grandma chassis. It seems like the perfect car picking up some sonic/popeyes/44oz mountain dew and cruising the strip at 40mph though.

Elantra was brought up because that’s what I booked for my car rental at the airport. They ran out of these, so they gave me another midsize sedan at no fee, which turned out to be late model charger r/t.

I want to pick up 2010 or 2012, so these were not that old at that time. Wonder how the reliability is. Looking for a 6mt challenger. I got a b8 Audi s4 project I cannot wait to get rid of, looking for another car of the same age, without four rings or VW emblem - these are strictly verboten from now on.

I wouldn’t mind a widebody Hellcat.

Had a 2012 Challenger SRT 6-spd in Blue Streak Pearl with black stripes. It was a one of less than 10 in the world. Sold it to a lucky bloke. It was his dream car. While it has an older platform and kind of handled like a boat (relatively speaking), it was a fast, naturally aspirated, hydraulic steering, rumbling beast which was practical. Way more pure and old-school (but not refined) than any BMW currently sold. WAY better than any Elantra!!!!!!!
Probably can get one under 20k now for 50k miles. |

I always always always get Charger RTs or Challenger RTs as rentals through Avis, and I rent weekly. Enjoy driving them every single time. Great cars.

Sometimes a car can look relatively similar and still sell because the original design is that good. Dodge just tweaks and improves over time and they keep selling. Why else do you think they can offer so many trims? It’s a cash cow now. |

Here's a thought - challenger ways like an f10 5 series, but has a reliable V8 5 series doesn't have. Meaning 5 series can have a V8, but it's problematic.
Challenger and charger look brash and in your face, less executive than 5 series for sure. So I don't want to replace my e90 with charger or challenger, I want to dump my S4 project and get some muscle instead. |

I looked up a 2012 Charger on the CR website. It did rather well. While it is not my cup of tea, back in 2012 it was a pretty nice car.
BTW...the Chrysler 300 was also built on the Mercedes platform back then. And still is. |

Absolutely hate the Challenger, looks terrible IMHO.
Late models Chargers in dark colours looks good though, there's one on my street and it has good presence. |

IMO, the newer chargers look pretty sweet:
But my beef is that it's a big lumbering car and putting a giant engine in it is ridiculous compared to even something like a BMW with a 2.0 turbo 4 with a healthy dose of torque and a good transmission. At slower speeds, especially with AWD, a modern turbo that makes full torque at low RPM will be just as fast accelerating and unless you are going to crazy speeds all the time, a car like the charger is a big waste IMO. I'd much rather have a 535/540 m-sport and those will keep up for the relevant speeds unless you really are taking the car to the quarter mile for "drag races".

I love the dodge products coming out. Old chassis but based on mercedes. Dont expect sharp handling like bmw, but for freeway cruising, great. I will be getting a durango srt over a used x5m just because of the 392 hemi. I dont want a turbo. Do like to mash the peddle from 0-80mph. Just going to visit the gas station a lot lol. Awd is great
