Fitment help please? Custom wheel build.

Hi guys new to the forum and new 135i owner. I am looking to outfit my car with a set of custom forged wheels. Haven’t decided on monoblock, 2pc, 3pc or any specific details to the concave / convex shape of them.

If it’s not a matter of limits to the customizability of a wheel what would be the ideal size of an 18” wheel that will both fit a stock suspension and BMW Performance or Ohlins Road and Track setup without rubbing in any way.

I know this depends on quite a bit of things but I have the opportunity to get a set built and need some help. I’m totally up got changing directions whether it be flat face, deep, lip, welded.

Any positive suggestions or advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Check the APEX site for recommended figments on our cars. They are as big as you can go without rubbing or fender mods.

You'd need to know wheel widths before you can decide on offsets. You may even need to know which exact tires first, if you wanted super flush fitment.

A good place to start is the standard widths/offsets for Apex like Mighty mentioned ^.

18x8.5" et 45 iirc. Seems like the front can handle a lower offset than the rear, where there's more room inboard.

You going custom could really take advantage of that. Perhaps something like et40 front and et50 rear?

What size tires do you want to run? Are these all purpose, just for show, track, DD only, etc.

Yep, depends a little on what you plan to do with your car. Also a lower offset will often allow more of a concave look so that can be a factor. But for me if I were getting custom wheels I'd go 18x8.5et42 front, 18x9.5et 52rear.

Why that offset vs what you have on your car now?

Hm. Tough.

For maximum tire is probably go for something like 18x9et42 and 18x10et55.

Then run 255 front and 275/35 or 285/30 rear tire. Would need a heavy fender roll and pull with trimming and probably around 2-2.5 degrees negative camber.

I know some folks who have done that can weigh in here.

Just found out that I can only get to a 9” width ET40 on Monoblocks. Should I forgo monos and go with a 2pc or 3pc as I can’t get to that?

If you can do 9.5+ and higher than et40 on 2/3pc then definitely the answer is yes.

If you want a square setup front to rear, et40 is OK, otherwise you'll want a higher rear offset.

MN Bimmer, I basically do have et52 rears since I did the rear brake hub mod and so that added 7-8mm to my et45 rears.

Thanks to everyone who mentioned us! Here is a direct link to our guide which should have some good info on offsets and tire sizing.

Good luck with the custom wheels!
