Issue with Upstream O2 Sensor
Back in November I had a terrible exhaust leak, the studs that couple the front section of the exhaust to the back section completely snapped. In order to fix this, my mechanic had to extract the studs from the front section of the exhaust. We did this by heating up the flange with a torch, and using an air hammer to push the studs out. This worked (yay!) and we were able to reinstall fresh hardware, but afterward upon starting the car I got an instant P0050 code, which is Bank 2, Sensor 1.
I drove home like this (40 miles) and ordered a new O2 sensor (BMW PN: 11787558073, Bosch 17099) when I got home. I installed this about a week later and changed out the spark plugs and an ignition coil while I was in there. Cleared the codes, fired it up, and drove around just fine, no more P0050 code. However, after about 20 minutes of driving I got 2 new codes on the same sensor:
I used ISTA+ to perform an O2 sensor test, and during this test it held the engine RPM at 2000 for 10 minutes and looked for O2 sensor data. The test failed, and it said something like "no voltage" or "no response" after timing out at 10 minutes. My question is, is this indicative of a bad sensor? I could likely send it back to FCP Euro and get a new one, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious before doing this. Thank you all for your help. |
