VTT Inlet Review

So I was getting my car put back to stock and decided to get the vtt inlets fitted just for the hell of it.

The turbos where getting replaced so to install the inlets was no hassle at all.

I wont be testing these to see how much power they make, I just wanted to
make this car a really nice cruiser.

My wife is still deciding between the golf convertible and my 135i

Initial feel is the car is really responsive now, revs super smooth and is
extremely quiet compared to a stock car.

Thanks to advan performance and especially billy for his tiresome efforts,
putting up with my OCD about my car and getting it prepped for my wife
to drive.

He is truly a master mechanic.

We had some install hiccups as they are really made for left hand drive.

The dv inlet ports on these pipes aren't in the best position so I had to get
some irrigation 25mm poly elbow to plumb back my dv's

http://www.bunnings.com.au/pope-25mm...elbow_p3127029

Now everything fits very nicely, the pipes are very well made and fit very easily.

Here is a quick log of my 1m fitted with the same pipes, the dyno graph is with the stock inlets and vtt inlets on map 7.
Nice increase just for changing pipes.

curious to know if these inlets on a stock turbo stock tune lower the wgdc. be interesting to see logs with standard inlets vs the vtt's.

How many hrs does it take for bill to install inlets approximately?

Looks neat and if it didn't have that vtt logo would look 100% stock!

It really depends how simple or complex your setup is

How much stuff you have to remove and put back

Now that Billy has done one shouldn't be a problem to get a quote of advan

you have to remove all the engine covers, under trays, air filter, dp's, remove the fan and remove the front inlet which is piss easy, the rear has to be cut out.

To get to the rear bolts on the rear inlet is a biatch to remove.

estimated time 2-3 hrs just on removal

Putting everything back takes a bit longer making sure everything lines up, doesn't
leak, doesn't rub against the front belt

Then you have to modify the dv's (remove the corrugated tubing) replace the tubing with 25mm oil/heat resistant 25mm rubber hose.

Its quite involved and time consuming.

Hope this helps

I wouldn't attempt this on the garage floor, you definitely need a hoist or a couple of
full days of the road and a lot of skinned knuckles.

There was no way of removing the front pipe in one piece on the 1m because
of the extra radiator and extra coolant lines.

Didn't feel like stripping the whole front end to save a 100 dollar pipe so I cut it out.

Just got to get some new 25mm silicon straight hose for the diverter valves,
as I want to make the engine bay look neater and more OEM like.

Looks very neat Marty!

I'm going to wrap black electrical tape over the RB turbo logo if I can see it when mine are installed

Garage List
Did you have to cut your front VTT pipe?

Mine was almost 2inches too long (airbox side) and was badly rubbing against the fan shroud. I cut/trimmed it with a razor blade to make it sit perfectly

I never though of wrapping a bit of electrical tape around the logo, good idea.

Nah mine was perfect length on the 135 and the 1M

No need to cut

I swear I read somewhere that they're slightly longer to allow for trimming for the various differences in each vehicle (different intake setups etc?)

So with the AFE DCI setup, did you notice a lot more intake noise after the inlets were fitted? Or is this still a works in progress and you've got the rear pipe left to fit?

Jeez where you cut that pipe really shows how restricted it is!

On the 135 with the stock intake it actually got quieter

The 1m only has the front fitted the rear will be fitted tomorow

You think the front is restrictive wait till I show you the rear

This is the rear, and not the most restrictive point as it get smaller near the turbo.

Hilarious isn't it. I feel sorry for those turbos.
