I had no problems here in Calgary over the past couple weeks, mine sits in a garage overnight however. In the daytime its outside though. Even during the -25C days it was fine. But yeah thank god for seat warmers.

Yah my car sits outside. For the past few weeks it has been -25 or so lol. Poor thing :P
The only issue i had which freaked me out was when i didn't drive my car for about 4 days and it just sat outside at -25 the heater stopped working. The engine started up fine. Drove around for 30minutes with heater set to Auto expecting it to come on after a while but it never did. Never came on so i thought my heater was broken but after talking to the guy at the local bmw dealership he suggested that it might just be the battery low on power. When the battery power is super low it cuts off power to the heater. Went on the highway and drove in 3rd gear for a while and then the heater started working again lol. |

Get an oil-pan block heater...have some mechanical empathy for your car beyond the "poor thing" comment.

I figured that the car waits until there is actually heat to blow from the fans before starting them up. It beats a -30 degree breeze in your car when you first start it up. If you press one of the fan buttons then press auto again it will crank the fans up for you.
Now that the weather has been warmer I haven't had the loud whirring from God knows where, but I am starting to get a sort of low whistle from the fans that has twice worsened to a sort of constant cricket chirp sound under braking if you can believe it after a two hour highway stint on the 23rd. I'll try to take it into the shop next week for these problems, and my squeaky driver seat. *sigh* The problems are starting to get annoying enough that I will take the car in before my sched service. |
