(DUMB) QUESTION ON 135i BRAKES

Hello everyone!!

Dumb question... i know... but have to ask....

Is the standard OEM 135i brakes system the same as the BMW PERFORMANCE BRAKE SYSTEM (pictured below) ??

The shape on the front calipers looks exactly the same.. only the color changes (yellow on the BMW performance / black on the OEM 135i brakes).

Anyone...??

Ciao, Carlo

They are not the same, I can tell you that. The internal differences, I am not sure of. I would assume it's still a 6 piston caliper, because it does not look nearly big enough to be an 8 piston. The rotors are different as well, but those are quite cheap to upgrade ($100ish per front, there are no performance rear rotors atm). I know the stock calipers are made by Brembo and I would assume these are as well. Maybe someone else has some details on the internals. Certainly not a dumb question though.

They are exactly the same. Those are meant to be an upgrade for the 128i. The 135i already has the calipers.

Yes the calipers are identical except for colour. Our local 135i specialist has confirmed it.

I like the black calipers from the 135i better...

I wonder if the 135i standard calipers would mount on my 130i hatch "bolts on".

Not sure... :iono:

That's what I'm hopping to do this year, but have put on hold until I can get a 100% confirmation that the full 135 brake set with a 130 hatch.
Fingers Cross, should know next week.

Itt will fit the hatch also yes. And they are the same as the 135I callippers. I was drooling over a kit at my local dealer last month...

According to the brochure they are lighter and something else better than the 135i stock.

The kit is lighter than the stock, because the calipers are drilled and slotted, making them weigh less. The pads are confirmed as the same part number, and the calipers are identical, except for the paint.

You mean the rotors, right?

Basically, if a 135 owner buys and installs the drilled/slotted rotors and painted his calipers yellow, he'll have the 'performance brake' package?

LOL! I meant the rotors. Dunno about you, but I do not think I'd want drilled calipers.

And I believe you are correct about the paint and rotors.

How do you know this?
Have you fitted to a hatch?
Many people have been looking for this answer, but to my knowledge no one has found the answer posted on a thread anywhere.
You help is appreciated.
Thanks

Only reason to purchase the performance brakes would be to keep the temperature down on the track and weight savings. Or just to look bitchin when you go the 1addicts meets.

If you play with realoem you see that the part numbers are identical on the 120d hatch and the 120cd, The e87 and e82 share the same components in the driveline/suspension/brakes. So i dont se ANY reason that it should not fit..

I also think the e81/87 was listed in the performance catalog...

They are different.

Brembo High Performance does not use any OEM components from production vehicles, and Brembo OEM does not use an High Performance products for production vehicles. There will be similarities is aesthetics since many of the same engineers and production methods are used, but when you see the products side by side there are many obvious differences.

The differences are based on function and purpose of the system.
While much of the criteria for quality, longevity and safety is the same between OEM and High performance, the aftermarket products from the High Performance division have an added benefit of being able to go for additional weight savings, firmer pedal feel, better modulation and control more suited to high performance and spirited driving, and ultimately a more performance oriented design.

The calipers are lighter and stiffer. They incorporate a short annulus design, while maintaining large surface area and volume.
The rotors are 2pc. fully floating. This design is advantageous for weight savings, improved longevity, and prevention of disc deformation.

The disc itself actually comes directly from Brembo Racing division, while the hats and hardware are engineered specifically to the aftermarket application. The brake lines are braided stainless steel and come from Goodridge. The pads are suited for high performance street use and come from Ferodo. Every other item is engineered and manufactured by Brembo for the High Performance Division.

If the caliper is different (and therefore better) why do BMW not list it as being available for the 135i - BMW certainly imply the calipers are the same, whilst the discs are clearly different of course.

Now, I can imagine their is a Brembo branded caliper that *is* an upgrade, but I'm yet to be convinced that the BMW performance item is. **********s, can you post photos of the differences?

I think **********s is referring to the Brembo GT BBK upgrade. That of course is not the same.

If you're already thinking of spending $$$ on the BMW Performance, might want to think about spending a tad more and get the Brembo BBK. Everything on the BBK is better. That and you have tons of brake pad options to go with.

Has Evolution Raceworks done a 60-0 with these things? They look HUGE!
I would love to see how many feet it takes to stop.
