E82 1-Series Coupe - Future Classic?
Considering only 1-series hatchbacks are in production (none for the US market) and no more 1-series coupe being produced. Also, considering the 2-series has replaced the 1-series in coupe form, is there potential for the E82 variants to become a future classic? Especially in the US?

The 2008 E82 had "Year one of the 1 Series" engraved on the Start button ring. And all 1M's in the US are 1 of 739
The 1M for sure, the rest of the E82's ? Most likely not

Canada did not. Probably the rest of the world too. I'm not complaining, you guys are stuck with sunroofs! And my MY2008 M-Sport actually means something.

I think the 128i with M sport, manual trans low options might appeal to club racers in the future being lighter and one of the last normally aspirated BMWs. Not the other ones except for the 1M coupe in my humble opinion. I know my son will be 18 in 5 years or so, and finding an MT 128i will be a high priority so he could experience NA/MT in a small BMW chassis that is not too old yet.

1M = surefire classic!!
135 = definitely a 'cult classic' probably searched out by boyracer types looking for an affordable and fast RWD BMW coupe. Also by people looking for a track car. 128: a small group of people who want an N/A engine. I don't think the 128 appeals to as wide of an audience as the 135. It doesn't have enough performance to be memorable, IMO. Overall i do think the E82 will have a cult-type following that will develop over many years (probably most after 10 or 15 years). It WAS a unique car that only came as a coupe to the US market and was closest, if anything, to the E21 3-series or 2002 (both also Coupes). The difference is that the E82 was a bit of a hot rod in 135 form and also very desirable in 1M form. The E21 only had the euro 320is which was probably entertaining, but not all that full-on. I bet the only future classic naturally aspirated I6 would be the S54. A legend.
Is 128i a future classic car? Maybe in the US and Canada, but not on this side of the pond. We never got one We had to do with 116i, 118i, 120i, 125i, 130i, 135i, and some diesel versions....and lots of them. Would any E82/87/88 be considered as a future classic car? A stated above, maybe the 1M (with some luck). Not even the E36 M3 is worth anything today, and it's a 22 year old model so why would any E82/87/88 with naturally aspirated engine be considered as a valuable classic car?
