Loveit!!!
But not successor. Just another variant of all the current BMW offerings, albeit a very cool one nonetheless. There won't be a successor to the 1M. Hydraulic racks are history, non-idrive cars are history. With that said Kudos to BMW, it looks cool for the newer gen BMW fans. ![]() |

I've had a deposit down on this car since May 2016. Very excited about it. Lots of sour grapes over on the M2 boards..."not special enough, not light enough, bad colors, etc etc". Funny, looking back at the 1M launch and people were saying the same thing. Ha!

Years back someone had an E92 M3 made in Santorini Blue, he then put gold BBS LM wheels (I think) on it, I still think that was one of my favorite color combos/car builds honestly.

The original N55 M2 is more of a successor, IMO.
As to the steering, I would not trade a 1M for an M2 CS, but some people have no issues with EPS steering. Everyone is different, but Hydraulic Steering is a massive distinction in driver ‘feel’ across all brands and models for me. The rear & mid-engine cars can mask it a little more, but still lack the feel of Hydraulic Steering. The allure to the M2 CS would be an original owner possibility, with European delivery, on a car that will probably hold its value very well, due to small numbers. |

I don't think I would buy it.
I have a 2018 M2, 6MT, totally stripped, no options whatsoever other than for replacement black front kidneys and side thingies I installed myself. It's a good car, in the context of what is being produced today. For me, it is actually one of my 2 winter cars (the other being a VW Golf R), but drive it by choice? Not really. When and if I trade in the M2, it will probably be on a utilitarian vehicle of some sort. The jump from the M2 to such a car would not be unimaginable, at least for me.

Looking at the F8X CS reviews, most seem to agree that it was the best version of the F8X (Base, Competition, CS, GTS). It was just too expensive relative to it's competition in the marketplace. They are still sitting new on lots. If BMW prices the M2CS correctly it could have a worthwhile value over the M2C, but dealer markups are likely to blow that out of the water unfortunately due to the limited production; the demand for which is likely much higher than the F8X CS. I do think that the factory tuning on everything will be another "more than the sum of it's parts" scenarios. The CS is getting M adaptive suspension (first time for this on the F87 chassis), combined with the forged wheels, roof, hood, specific exhaust and the rest of everything added up I think could make for a special car. I will say that relative to the 1M I am already expecting to be let down in the steering feel of the EPS versus our hydraulic rack. However, the CS iterations seem to have the best version of that tune on offer. I am also expecting to love the motor in the M2CS more. The N54T is a ton of fun, the fat mid range torque gives it a lot of character; "little thug" as Chris Harris recently said. But the S55 is a beast, it's such a surge of power. In that it pulls hard to redline, it seems to be the spiritual successor to the S54 which I think will be great fun. At the end of the day it's all speculation until someone actually drives it. ![]()

I’m not sure why but I found the F8x CS much more interesting than the M2 CS. But like you say these things can often be much more than the sum of their parts (Exhibit A: 1M.)

Don't see much here that is a successor in any way.
If anything it's getting further and further away from the 1M. Give us a lighter and more basic car with less accessories and I'd consider it a 1M successor. Also this thing will be $85-90k. Just LOL

Personally, I kinda would have thought that BMW could have taken a page out of their own past and out of the Porsche playbook to make the M2CS more special. Carbon Fiber Trunk, and maybe delete some insulation or replace the rear trunk mat with cardboard like the E46 M3 CSL.
No need to take it as far or down the route of the M4 GTS, but stripping a few things away might have made the car seem more "special". Get ride of the iDrive and keep a simple screen just for track specific data (Configurable gauges, lap timer, etc) and the mandatory back up camera. Maybe offer the CS with more aggressive front bucket seats. Offer a rear seat delete. Maybe some more track specific brake cooling (real ducting to the front and rear brakes), you get the idea. If you're going to make a third version of an M3, I would assume each would be more and more raw or hardcore, and the CS just doing take it to the level I would have expected. |

What happens when you run a storied company built on real drivers' cars, and then you start to believe your own advertising and hype?
You're looking at it.
