so i got the update. haven't driven much so not much to report yet. but, i have one issue that i am hoping someone is willing to help with.
my car had a tune installed when the dealership flashed the update, so when i hook up my access port, i don't have the option to get a backup of the new factory ROM. so if i uninstall the access port, new ROM will not be re installed. i believe what will happen is the original rom (older version) that was backed up will be installed. do any of you have an access port with a backup of the current ROM. i have reached out to COBB but wanted to ask here as well since a lot of us are getting the update. the backup of the factory rom is saved on your computer and i can show you how to find it. i will let you know what cobb says as well.

Dinan
Had the SIB 12-15-14 update installed today. Still waiting for the DME to do its adaptation thing, but my initial impressions are consistent with others on this thread: stable idle with A/C on, crisper and less jerky shifting, and most importantly, the low-speed lagginess seems to be rectified.
For those of you with Dinan tunes (mine's Stage 2), it's worth knowing that the SIB update will NOT overwrite your tune. I confirmed this at my Dinan dealer. So you can get the DCT update and you'll not need to return to your Dinan dealer afterwards. You'll be good to go. |

I don't get it the fascination with all the cracking, popping, and burbles? I'd say the mixture is too rich, and for me, it sounds pretty crappy! |

I finally got the approval to have the PPK installed as a fix for the throttle lag and de-tune, it is much better to me and I am much happier. Best way to accomplish it is to get in touch with BMW customer service and ask your SA to talk to the regional service manager/engineer.
Throttle mapping and response are improved and more certain the adaptation will make it even better once it is set. I wouldn't say the burbles are obnoxious, at least it isn't anything like having a rally car's 2 step, shooting flames out of the exhaust. Very appropriate for the car and especially the engine. I saw a 2002 pull into the dealer when I got the approval, its exhaust was popping nicely. They clearly wanted to keep the heritage intact Thanks everyone for making the problem and fix(es) known. |

Personally, I love all the popping and crackling in overrun. I keep my windows down and the stereo off just so I can hear it.

Well I never thought popping, crackling, burbling, or the various noises a donkey might make were a sign of engine health.
Inside my car, I don't hear much of anything which is a sign the cabin in well insulated from the road. Thus I decided to roll down the window and stick my head out to see what I could hear. Well what I heard was the masculine roar of a mighty engine that was obviously in the prime of its life. What I think is you fellows have flogged your engines so hard that not even the magic of Dinan could restore their power. |

Well, as the OP, I guess my engine is the unhealthiest of all. lol. I don't think anything from Dinan is going to "restore" any power. I may lose a bit though

The sound that I get is from the BMW Performance power kit version 1, and BMW calls it "a very sporty exhaust burbling noise during engine overrun conditions."

Also, burble and popping on overrun is the sign of a healthy engine... This is a normal thing on MINI Cooper S (youtube r53 burble), from what I understand excess fuel is used on overrun to cool exhaust valves and piston crown and then is ignited on the hot manifold causing burble. Called in today to obtain an appointment and courtesy vehicle. Going in next Tuesday for the DME SIB 12-15-14 update. From this forum, I think I will be the first 135is getting this done.

I would seriously hire you to make this happen for me too lol. My car tries to kill me at least once a week with its throttle lag. I have all the latest software and the dealer insists it is normal. I hadn't heard definitively though that the PPK actually fixes the issue, as I thought it was a transmission software issue, not an ECU issue.

Just wanted to give a brief update.
I've driven quite a bit lately, over 500 miles since receiving the latest DME software 2 weeks ago. While the car is still better than before the update, it definitely got worse over the 500 miles (I'm guessing the adaptive transmission learning) has something to do with it. I still get occasional throttle lag, though definitely not as often as before. I still highly recommend everyone get this update, it's a definite improvement, but it isn't the magical cure-all that some people (myself included) thought initially. |

I just went info a software update to fix the throttle lag. Through my limited driving, the throttle lag seems to have disappeared. I do not know what version I am on but it was updated just last week.
