I can't stand the looks of a soft top personally. If you do get it, get BSM or Carbon Black so it blends a bit better.
But doesn't really matter what others think, get what you like and screw everyone else. |

Go for the E93 instead not a big fan of soft top.

I'm quite partial to the black top on alpine white, granted im biased seeing as how that's my car, but still....top down aggressive driving is a joy. Get what you want and don't look back.

Considering that the folding hardtop adds no weight at all to the e92 335i...

i'm not hating? it's fact why the blind 'no!! verts are perfect!!' attitude? it has additional underbody bracing, which adds weight.. along with the mechanical stuff to raise/lower the top.. it's a box that's missing the top, it's going to have more flexibilty, a rigid body is the FIRST point of call for good handling. ED: can't forget that various suspension bits that easily fit on the coupe/hatches don't fit the verts due to the additional stuff under the body. |

I'm not sayin they're perfect. But a well designed one like the 135 is far from what you make it out to be.
Do you drive on the track every weekend? A 135 vert will out handle 90% of what's on the road. And it's not the floppy noodle of past convertibles. I can't bend the chassis - and I've tried. I've lifted The car nearly a meter in the air on one jack pad and pushed on the opposite lifted corner. And guess what? It didn't bend. And don't even get me started on what you gain with topless driving. Because its far more than you lose in 10/10 performance driving that I can guarantee you never do. It's a well composed and fun car to drive - and that's all I want out of it. So it is perfect in that regard. Also a 135 vert weighs the same as a 335 coupe - 3650 pounds. So what's that weight argument again? |

A pointless thread. Just like "what color should I get" threads.
The OP should just get what he/she likes. Some like the feeling of the wind in the hair, and others don't. It's a emotional thing as much as anything and that's why it is so personal. If the vert is not for you, no need to bash those who like it. And vice-versa. Personally, I am not a fan, but that's just me.

The answer is no and no. Besides all of the wonderful things about my 2012 135cic, I love my trunk space. Even with the top down, i can put two full golf bags in it. With the hardtop convertible down, you loose most of the trunk.

Seriously? The weight/handling BS??? Even if you're tracking weekly (which I'm betting is a miniscule portion of the members here), the small advantage you gain at the track pales is comparison to the pure joys of top-down motoring. WTF is so hard to understand about that? Unless you've never owned a vert (therefore making you unqualified to judge between the two)...which I'd venture = 99% of the negative posters. BTW, OP...don't mind us. Get whatever makes YOU happy! |

Definitely not man. I just traded in a 328xi for a 135i soft top and even though it's not the same dilemma your facing the 135i are baddass. It depends on personal preference and price. In my case getting the 135i worked out way better with my payments. I love my 1 series and I'd probably only get rid of it if I was getting an m3

Mine is a 2011 M-sport. No regrets, none.
I prefer the sort top. As others have noted, the trunk is still usable with the soft top down. In the E92, pretty hard to use the trunk with the top down. . I had an e46 before the 135. It was gorgeous, but this one is better. One caution: If someone tints your soft top back window - make sure they don't cut the defroster wires. |

My wife has a 135 Vert and she loves it, and will occassionally let me drive it. She picked Blue Water and Black top, and could have chose between the 135 and 335, and she wanted the 135. We have the PPK1 on it, and every option but active steering. Trouble free, fun to drive, great gas mileage, and a terrific dealer. Get the wind screen, makes it really enjoyable.

I'm not sure what the price differential is between a 135 and 335 convertible is but it's got to be significant ($10k?).
I like the look of the black soft top better on my white 135. When the top is up from the inside you can't really tell its a convertible. Maybe a little noisier than a hard top would be. But the folding hard top sucks up your entire trunk, doesn't look great and adds complexity and possibly costly repairs down the road. When I was picking up mine a few months ago there was a nice brand new $100k 6-series convertible sitting in the showroom and it had a soft top.

It's like the bone-heads around here who shoe-horn replies about manual transmission into threads started by DCT owners looking for important information. It's just wrong. That having been said, it might not have been that clear from the OP, which is why I wouldn't have been rude about it.

It's also worth pointing out that I've owned quite a number of convertibles over the years, and this is easily the quietest one I've ever driven, hands-down. It might as well be a coupe. I assume the hard-top 3er is even quieter, but there is quite a lot of stuffing in the roof. Manufacturers used to sell this to convertible buyers as an option, usually called something like "premium headliner", but I guess with BMW it's just standard. Anyway, both cars are terrific, and I'm sure you'll be happy either way.
