I mean, I do that fairly regularly and there's hardly any people tracking 911s anymore. Maybe at a PCA event which is basically a glorified tour lap with old.men talking about how they can "really feel the engineering" and "once you get it over 4000 rpm hang on".

You want to talk about cars killing it on the tracks today? BMW M2. Hands down the track day king right now. They're all crazy fast out there for a not that small, RWD car. They're crushing it at the track and in autocross. I dunno what it is, but M2s are all driven by guys that will push them and the cars respond in mind.

I dunno what pro driver you watched struggle with a C7, but that car is craZy docile with the computers on. I bet he was a professional uber driver. Or was on some.like, worn out Chinese tires. Either way, the C7 is very easy to drive fast.

Not in my experience. Not very common cars out there.

There's lots of fast cars, but the M2 is definitely the car that's both very common and very fast in my experience.

The current M2 is the purist, most legit M vehicle in production now. The S58 cannot receive enough accolades

That's based off NASA and PDG HPDEs, and SCCA and Sebring autocross. The only Porsches I used to see routinely were 944s. Seeing more Boxsters and Caymans now. Very few (almost 0) 911s, they're like a C8, expensive old man cars that people don't really track, despite being capable and designed for it

YMMV

Got to hoon a 992.2 GTS at PECLA. Crazy that Porsche makes cars faster and more capable than even that..

An S or even a base Carrera are enough for me.

I have to admit the GTS "system" manages to sound pretty good. Ridiculous power depth bottom to top.

However...
Weight, weight and weight.

The 3.0 in the S is more than most could handle. Has former GTS bits where it matters. The T is a solid pick too and get the manual.

The prices have catapulted to WTF level though.
Around 170k average for a T? Dayum.
Probably close to that for an S. I see what Porsche did here.

I was at a Mosport track day a few months back and it was full of 911's, hammering around all day. Seemed an affluent crowd though.

Yeah the GTS was a little heavier feeling than I hoped for.

It’s likely compounded since you’re in FL, but NASA is predominantly for boomers in jorts who bring their wife Barb who sits on a lawn chair all day.

At any given trackday at either Sonoma or Laguna, about 50% of the cars there are GT3s, regardless of the organizer.

Interesting you say that because that was the exact opposite experience I had with NASA. NASA was almost all young people, and was kinda sketchy as a result. Lots of kinda junk cars that wouldn't have passed a real tech inspection lol.

PCA events were somewhere between a boomer fest and a retirement home. My dad was in his mid 50s when we went and he was significantly younger than most people there. They were also full of the most insane "lines" I've seen. They were all over the place, and not where they should be. That said, they were also all very slow, lol, so they had no real issues. The only car that wrecked at a PCA event I saw was a Viper that the quick release wheel apparently wasn't latched and it came off.

It's funny how different things are in different areas

Autocross maybe, but up in Ont/Que/NY they are as prevalent as anything else, and often well driven, but that does depend in part on the club and perhaps even the track. Big / fast tracks like WGI or Mosport bring out the bigger / faster cars.
