AMG black is the one to keep IMO. Heck, probably even better than the current bloated GT (the original GT was much more in line with an enthusiast vehicle and threat to the 911, the current one is quite literally a GT-cruiser in terms of handling and chassis). Jaguar is too much of a question mark in terms of whether it'll be around or there will be any support. Support for an old AMG black will be difficult too...but difficult is better than none.

Driving a $5000 Saab when the brand is dead is a lot different than holding a $75k Jag they made in tiny quantities as the brand dies. You can get parts out of a junkyard. There's a real possibility of not being able to get replacement pieces for the Jag.

Nobody mentioned color so I would do it based off color. The Merc looks plain, even though it is special and a black series. The Jag looks amazing with the deep Blue.
To be honest though if you aren't going to drive them very much what's the point of keeping either of them other than an appreciating asset? I would almost sell both of them and maybe get something else more collectible.

5k! Try $500

And 75 for the Shaguar? There's one for sale at well over $300K.

On the other hand, if the replacement is even more fun to drive, wouldn't keeping the AMG be redundant? If you can make it work, get the next vehicle but keep all 3 for a few weeks/months to see which ones you end up liking more and actually driving. It might turn this dilemma into an easy choice.

From a practical standpoint, if you do keep the AMG, how would maintenance and reliability look like? It's 7 years older than the Jag, and although neither brand is known for being reliable, the older car would probably be less reliable. Also, for how long would you keep the car?
Thank you for the well thought out suggestions. I may get all three in and see which ended up being the pick from there. It's a great suggestion that I had not thought about.

Sorry ... The GT R is not a limited production car like the c63 Black series or the Jag Project 8, but it`s still a rare car that you don`t see on the road everyday.

In your heart you already know what you want

I just do not see the appeal of the GT, zero horny, just another ill proportioned Merc. Cannot believe this is even a discussion tbh, the Project 8 and Black series are proper cars.

The only Mercedes 2 door i'd be interested in is an SLR McLaren. The only Jag I'd be interested in is an XJR.

I'd sell the Jag because it's worth the price & you'll get more for that vs the Benz

History suggests 2 doors and convertibles do better than any 4 door hard top if you are talking investment.

However got a mate who's on about his 50th Porsche. GT 2, 3, 4, RC, 911 Turbo, air cooled, water cooler auto/manual he seems to have had them all bar electric. He buys to drive and hopes to break even or best case make a profit.

Its all about the drive rather than the money, as the investment is in his fun - interest. His done the same with 4x4 pick ups. Reckons his Supercharged TRX RAM has been one if the best for what it is.

Sell the Jag...that is not even a question in my mind.

What Jaguar now represents is part of the reason...other reason is Jaguar handling sucks once the suspension has higher mileage.

I bet that AMG is rock solid.

If you’re seeking variety in your garage, I’d suggest letting go of the Black Series and keeping the Project 8. The GT‑R will satisfy your desire for a modern AMG coupe, while the Jag remains your wild card—the kind of unique four‑door that nobody else is bringing to Cars & Coffee.

However, if AMG heritage is what matters most to you, then the Black Series is the one to keep. It’s the last naturally aspirated V8 bruiser from that era, and it will always have a dedicated following. The trade‑off is that you’d end up with two AMG coupes that are similar in character.

If it were my choice, I’d favor keeping the Project 8 (Unicorn Car). It pairs better with the GT‑R and adds more variety to your collection. But if you’re still emotionally attached to the Black Series, that’s the car you’ll miss the most if it leaves.

Thanks, Elderado82 for the logical advice. For the moment, I’m keeping both and learning to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses. Since I started this thread a year ago, my appreciations for driving the Project 8 has grown tremendously. On a smooth road with big sweeping turns and fast switch backs it is magnificent. The on throttle response is instantaneous, and the thrust on upshifts is like a kick in the behind.
The Black Series, despite its German heritage, is the better tool for twisty narrow roads where I can toss the smaller and lighter body around. It’s also just fun to slowly cruise around town in due to the addictive rumble from the exhaust.
