I haven't been down there in over 10 years now, but the combined tolls for me back then to drag my two-axle race car hauler down from upstate to Lawn Guyland and back were over $40 back then...and probably closer to $70 now. Believe it or not, the diesel fuel was cheaper than the tolls!

Most people who aren't from this area have no idea how bad the tolls actually are.....

I actually read something not long ago about a guy from PA that was given a hard time because he didn't have a front plate even though PA doesn't require a front plate. The cop was wrong, not sure if he was a rookie.

Don't even get me started on the speed camera program. It was originally only when school was in session and cameras were within 1/2 mile or something on the block of the school. It was then changed to a radius of the school. Then they changed it to 24/7 regardless of whether school was in. NOW, they lowered the freakin speed limits on some of the major streets.
Staten Island speed cameras have generated around $12 million in fines so far in 2025, according to data.
https://www.silive.com/transportatio...ata-shows.html

We have red light cameras too. These intersections normally have the countdown flashing for pedestrians crossing the street but drivers don't pay attention. It's pretty easy to figure if you have time to cross BUT people freak and nail the brakes causing rear end accidents at the intersections.

Pretty much same here regarding school cameras. Our premier (governor) who approved the cameras in the first place, recently changed his mind and now wants to pull them from all the backlash at least. The funny thing is that the cameras are owned by an American company who take a large cut of the fines...

Tell them the best part. Thanks to Sammy's Law, the speed limits in those areas are now 20 freaking miles per hour...or less! (That's 32 km/hr for our friends north of the border.) Throw in a few traffic lights that are all now intentionally mis-timed, and it's quicker to walk than to drive! But, maybe that's the tree huggers' nefarious plan.

As for states like PA without required front plates, they also have rear plate LPR cameras at all toll facilities to deal with those and mis-reads of front plates. If both plate reads fail, I'm pretty sure that a snapshot gets sent to a person to review/bill manually...and they probably use AI by now to look for repeat no-plate vehicles and travel patterns to populate the scofflaw list for enforcement at the toll booth penalty boxes.....

AND they took roads that were 2 lanes in each direction and changed to one lane in each direction to put extra wide bike lanes and lower the speed from 40 mph to 30 mph

100% agree in theory. However, my house has a very decorative flimsy front door. I also have ring cameras. I'm guessing if I have video of 2 thugs trying to kick into my house the law would side with me shooting through the door. Especially since the video would hear me clearly warning them I am armed and next kick results in response.

40 years ago today I swore an oath and began my career in law enforcement. What a ride. As someone once said to me, "you just got a ticket for a front row seat to the greatest show on earth". I've been retired for 9 years now but it seems like yesterday that I took that oath. Came across a great article today, what a coincidence. It's a great read for anyone approaching retirement regardless of your career path. Peace.

I have given 20+ years in support of PD. Once I go, I'm gone. Don't call me and ask me, I won't remember.

I hope to go on to a new life of service, helping at Home Depot, in shorts. Maybe coaching soccer or baseball. And not waking at 2:00 worrying about this or that or the other that needs my attention but I can't do anything about it.

I know this wont sound good to you USA folks, but regarding Gun being available to any civilian, your amandment that gives you that right and so on,thats where you are TOTALLY wrong. Its a superbig business, and they are making billions on you people killing eachother.
What country has the most people in prisons? Almost 20% of all the people in prisons is in USA.

Most deaths from fire weapons? you are almost at 20% of all people being killed from firearms in THE WORLD.

And yet ,you still think it should be everyones right to "protect" themselves?
Tell me, why do many european countries do the opposite ,have superstrict policies and literally 100x or more better results than USA?
Go figure...

Yep! It should still be a right. A small percentage of the population abusing that right to bear arms doesn’t invalidate that right. If that’s your angle, then why have any rights at all?!? Any of them that can be abused or manipulated, are! I guess we could try socialism or communism. I mean, those countries are better…..right?!? The concept of punishing the whole for the actions of the few is flawed to the core.

P.S. The countries with the highest gun deaths are Venezuela, El Salvador, etc. Even Brazil is high on the list. Even if we use a per capita figure, the U.S. still isn’t #1. Depending on which source you site and the metric used, the U.S. is between 11th and 28th on the list of gun violence deaths. Nice try though.

I love when people bring up Switzerland as the metric to measure the world by. They are largely homogenous, not bordered by problematic countries like Mexico, aren’t particularly succeptible to human/drug trafficking enterprises, etc etc. It’s really easy to present superior when you don’t really have a dog in the fight. But alas, Switzerland has messed it up for themselves by allowing immigration from problematic countries. Now they are experiencing on a very small scale what other larger countries are dealing with. Let’s see how good Switzerland looks when their country is eventually overrun like the U.K. has been. They banned Muslim face coverings as of this year. This is going to get good. Welcome to the fight!

One could deflect that same indictment back to you. You speak about U.S. issues while living in Croatia, cherry picked some random figures and presented them as truth (…from your pulpit of superiority), and seemingly have no clue about what it means to be an American, our rights, and all of the nuance that comes with it. Perhaps you’re the simpleton?!! You’re the one that brought other countries into this and asserted they have it right and the U.S. has it wrong. I merely pointed out not all is well in those countries and the underlying reasons why. Everybody - referring to countries - thinks they have it right and pursues the superiority approach……until things begin to happen in their countries and they eat their own shoes.

Despite all of your criticisms, people STILL want to come here……in droves. They want to be here so bad, in fact, that they’ll risk death to get here, will shirk the law just for a taste of freedom, and even use those same freedoms to criticize this country and the government (…even though that same freedom wasn’t granted to them in their home countries). They want our freedoms, our stability, our democratic processes, etc. In the irony of it all, they get mad and riot when we try to send them back to their home countries. I guess the U.S. isn’t so bad after all. Maybe we should send them all to Croatia.
