CAN based "analog" gauges on my e82
I want some gauges.
Yes, I do have an android stereo and a bluetooth OBD2 dongle, I know about DashPro and Torque. I also am aware of the P3 vent gauge. But I've seen the following item on eBay and am now obsessed. I want analog gauges, mom That being said, I'm a little lazy to go running wires through the firewall and tapping into sensors, ideally I would like to keep everything in the dash area, neatly ziptied and within my comfort zone which is electronics and code. I went down the rabbit hole and learned about D-CAN, K-CAN, PT-CAN, J1939, J1979, Arduino, ESP32, baud rates, serial ports, and so on and on and on To make the whole story short, I'm looking at getting some VDO CAN-capable gauges, SingleViu they call them, unfortunately. They support CAN signal to show data, but with a huge caveat, they expect J1939 protocol, supposedly mainly used on heavy duty construction equipment, and boats. I'm considering Arduino-ing a translator that would read off the PT-CAN bus (I think K-CAN is slower?) on my car, convert relevant data into J1939 format and send it to the gauges. I'm not even sure if it can be reasonably done, but I've seen some projects online that appear to be at least halfway there. Ideally I want to have oil pressure and temp, and coolant temp, so 3 gauges.
