The “turbo” font brings back so many memories. Growing up I was so engrossed with the various badges/labels on cars. The Supra font, the turbo font on the back of certain Porsches, etc. So many cool cars from the 90s with awesome badges/fonts/labels, etc. I really miss so much from those days.

The 90s were the greatest decade for cars and nobody will ever convince me otherwise.

True, it really bombed. I'm not certain if it was the added dealership premiums, better value in other models, or the design/looks. I'm surprised it was never offered with a manual transmission until now.

Dunno if it’s different in your market, but the new Z has always been available with a manual transmission. Only the NISMO was auto only.

Pretty funny that the decal isn’t properly centred on the roundel.

Owned a couple interesting cars from the 90’s, a 95 Taurus SHO and a 95 3000GT VR4…..I went crazy with mods on the 3000GT chasing more hp, should’ve kept it to a boost controller and called it a day lol.

Loved my VR4, had a 95 but boy was it fickle. Had a bunch of stuff go out, but the transfer case and everything was luckily replaced under warranty. Went to a MKIV Supra Turbo after that and enjoyed the tank reliability.

I had a few SHO's in the day. A 1990 300Z TT, and a 1995 3000GT Spyder VR-4. I did a boost controller, VPC, and Borla exhaust with the VR-4. It sounded awesome and it pulled great. But it was so heavy and understeered so much.

I wish I still owned all of those cars.

It has a manual, just not the Nismo.

It's a mixture. It's selling better than the MKIV Supra did, but I think you nailed it on dealers and value. You can buy loaded Performance models in the upper 40s new now, which is a value in the segment but a lot of money still. For not much more money you can get a backseat and a nearly 500hp V8 in a mustang. Add in that reality is, the market for 2 seat sports cars is basically all old men now, because not many 20 somethings can afford one, and it's a recipe for disaster, because if they can afford $50k for a Z, they can also likely afford $60-70k for a C8 Corvette.

It looks centered to me. You're looking at it at an angle, not straight on.

I really dig the midnight purple. I might pick one up..not anywhere near MSRP mind you, but with enough discounts.incould see it.

I hate the silver side trim, I would either color match it (likely impossible to make it look right with the color shift of the paint) or black it out.

I saw one today and while the front end is a bit generic (it's really the headlight/DRL design that's so generic), the car itself looks great in the flesh. I didn't care for the rear end when it was revealed, but in person the rear looks great. I think it's a car that launched at the worst time, with horrible dealer markups for just greed, and it hasn't really had a chance to recover. It's like 3-4 years in and is selling better now than it has up to this point..

I agree, if possible would even consider matching that silver to the gold wheels/Heritage decals.

That midnight paint is incredible, nearly black in some views and goes purplish in others. I’ve never been a fan of purple on cars but prefer that effect then the BMW Thundernight Purple offering.

More I’ve read about the car, it’s biggest letdown stock is handling. Too many reviewers describe it being way too softly sprung, not enjoyable on curvy roads. Purposefully done by engineers to be a GT car….Nismo edition is for those that want track capable/fimer.

Probably easily corrected with aftermarket suspension solutions on non-Nismo cars.

I've seen that too, and honestly I'm not sure that's a bad thing?

It's not like we're talking about your grandpa's old Buick that would roll side to side going around any turn, it's still a great handling car. But it's also not teeth rattlingly sharp. And yeah, a set of nice Bilstein or QA1 or Viking shocks, maybe a set of stiffer springs (maybe the Nismo ones?) and I'm sure you could stiffen it up more. But frankly I think the person that's gonna buy it first to drive it daily will appreciate the softer ride. When you're just gonna drive it for a few hours or days to write an article it's easy to complain about things owners might appreciate.

The best part is they're not any sort of stupid electronic adjustable shocks, so you can buy any number of great options without having to fight the computer over it.

I actually really dig it. Fixed a bunch of the styling issues.

I see a manual in the photos.

Midnight Purple is a legendary color.

I'm sure it can be equipped with Ohlins or something similar aftermarket to fix whatever Nissan intentionally did to the suspension.

Now if there was a way to easily reduce weight down to around 3-3300 lbs without stripping it they could have a winner..

I probably would have bought this when I was in my 20s.

It absolutely is.

The car isn't the problem, it's the economic factors it launched into. The reality is, you g people with decent jobs now are largely crushed by high rented and student loans, while trying to save for a house.

When the 350Z came out you could make $15 an hour as a college kid, pay $500 a month in rent, and afford a 350Z. Maybe not a loaded out Grand Touring model, but a mid level one for sure. A buddy of mine got one out of college a lightly used Enthusiast model (I think that's what it was called - it had the LSD but cloth seats still). It was totally doable then. I don't know that many people are in that same situation now.

This car looked dated the second it came out. The proportions are wonky and many styling cues are plain cheesy. The scoopy lower body and cladding screams early 2000s. Nissan tried to inject some 1st gen 240Z heritage into design, but it just comes off looking really weird and none of looks like old school Z except for the rear tailights which is actually a decent throw back to the super sexy 4th gen Z. This heritage Z has about as much "heritage" as Ford tried to do with the laughable Mustang "FX Package" which supposedly has a lot of Fox body cues.

The new Z does look much better with proper wheels and a drop, but for the money, not worth it. It's a "new" car with 23 y/o chassis that has had very minor tweaks, and an okay performing twin turbo V6, an okay 6MT, and a lazy 9AT.

What specifically is wrong with the chassis from an engineering perspective?
