Rear license plate screw insert stripped

So I went outside yesterday morning to find the rear plate of my car hanging on by one screw. Took off the plate and discovered that the bracket under the plate, held on by two screws, was only attached at one point. The inserts for the screws are plastic and the left one is stripped out and won't retain the screw properly. Any ideas on removal and replacement of these inserts? Anyone see this before?

Joining this thread because I have the same thing.

Did you do a EU delivery? That is what caused mine. The EU plates were riveted in. When the car got here they had to drill out the rivets to install the NA plate bracket. The insert got damaged when they had to drill it out.

I figured you can get new plastic inserts, just have not had time to do it yet.

Got pics? IIRC the rear plate bracket is plastic frame with metal threaded inserts that go into the trunk. Usually the issue is the license plate screws themselves rust so you end up stripping them when trying to remove. Post pics and let's see what you're dealing with but seems like you'll need new inserts. Also while you're at it, go replace the screws with stainless ones. If you're not running a license plate frame, a M5x8 is perfect. If you're running a frame obviously you'll need a longer screw. ECS sells these starting at 12mm here.

Here's a random pic I had snapped when I first got my car, but you can see the 2 threaded inserts in my frame are gold/brass color. Mine are metal, not plastic.

They probably just pop out from inside the trunk with a couple locking tabs.

Just going by what they look like, have not done it yet.
