The upcoming Grand Sport will be basically the Z06 with Stingray engine (that's how they've always done it).

Chevy adopted the Porsche pricing formula for the The C8. The Z06 used to be $25k more than the base/Stingray. On the C8 it's $40-50k more. The ZR1 was $35k more than Z06 & now it's $70k more.

They're both grossly over-priced which is why Z06s are being sold with $15-20k discounts. The ERay was a sales flop. It started at $105k just below the Z06, and they're just sitting. I've seen dealers offering ~$30k off.

GM also charges thousands more for the same option pkg on a Z06 than they charge on the Stingray. On the Stingray you have to pay $11k for the 3LT interior pkg (the better leather, PDR, two-toned seats or whatever). The same pkg is $14k on the Z06 - nothing different in the pkg.
I didn't know about that interior nonsense. That's some bullshit right there. If you could idk, actually spec the car like a Mclaren/Ferrari/Lambo/ whatever sure, 14k sounds like a steal but we're talking cookie cutter GM quality stuff here.

For $13,550 you get:
  • Driver & passenger memory seats
  • Carbon fiber & leather steering wheel
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Suede upper interior trim (a-pillars & headliner)
  • Universal home remote
  • Cargo nets
  • GT2 (middle tier) seats
  • Bose 14-speaker audio
  • Heated & ventilated seats
  • HUD
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Performance Data Recorder

You then have available options once you choose this pkg of colored stitching ($495), colored seatbelts ($495), carbon fiber interior trim ($1,500 or $5,000), carbon fiber sill plates ($2,000), suede steering wheel ($695), competition sport seats ($500).

It's ridiculous like you said for GM quality stuff. And the leather dashes are still lifting like my C6 leather dash.

Yeah, I think a lot of their target demographic is somewhat price-insensitive, and they know they can put the screws to them. Get it if you can, I guess. What's funny is that these options make BMW look like a downright bargain, and that's hard to do, lol.

Like you, one of the things that's always bothered me about most of the high-end American cars is that you get inside and for the most part they look like one of the brand's econoboxes. If they're trying to make a car of that caliber for the prices they're asking at least don't cheap out on the materials and use parts-bin stuff. It kind of puts a dark lining on what should be a fairly silver cloud.

Seems to me aftermarket may be a gold mine for the Corvette.

I was honestly very surprised on both my M vehicles the amount of features that were included. My M2 had a sticker of $68,xxx and includes everything I'd want. I do think at the time the $10k carbon pkg was significantly over-priced (still is). I mean the competition seats in the Vette are $500 vs $2,600 in the M2.

But the fact that a $120k car doesn't come with universal garage door opener or the best (used lightly) interior is laughable.

Yeah, I guess I'm thinking of stuff like the Premium Package, DAPP, PAP, etc. that have stuff that everyone wants and at least some of which really should be standard equipment on cars of this caliber and price. They always struck me as expensive until I looked at Porsche, etc. I've never looked at Corvette options since I'm not really interested in one, but wow that stuff you listed is just nutso.

I agree that some of the carbon fiber stuff BMW offers is pretty crazily priced as well. I've also never understood why on a lot of models ventilated seats are only available with black seats. Huh?

I also thought the ventilated seat thing was weird when configuring various cars. My wife's X3MC has the Tartufo interior with ventilated seats (which don't do anything anyway).

Big reason why I don't bother looking at Porsche. That brand has fallen away from what it used to be about. Their business financials prove that.

I've played with the Porsche configurator a few times just for the hell of it, and frankly I find it overwhelming. Sometimes there's such a thing as too many choices. On the one hand, I guess it's great that you can personalize it to such a large degree, but on the other I think it'd take me months to actually decide on each and every variable – it'd be agonizing.

Why I don't have a Cayman GT4 in my garage. I refuse to pay exessive amounts for things that should be included at that level. I do want one, but will have to find one gently used in as close a spec to what I want as possible.

I understand what you are saying, but comparing a Lambo, Mclaren, Ferrari, etc. interior to a Corvette production car interior is a bit misleading. The exotics are all low-volume production machines that are mostly hand built. Those manufacturers are not going to set up production jigs to mass produce interior parts. Expecting GM to take a mass-production automobile then hand build interior parts is just not going to happen.

I don't think anyone is saying that. However, the $200k version shouldn't have the same interior quality as the $60k version. And what you get above for $13,500 is a rip off. The 3LZ interior pkg in my '11 Z06 that included pretty much all the same features was $7,300, and also a rip off.

Never hated or liked Corvettes and never thought about owning one. I'm not a fan of the C8's styling but the real world tests about how great the car handles caught my attention. Just like the GTR, I bought a C8 Z06, my first ever American car, not for its looks but for its performance. I am very impressed and satisfied with it and brings a smile every time I drive it. As for the ZR1X, the thought of running that fast on pump gas and regular tires is mind boggling and damn impressive considering that my GTR runs 1300 WHP only on E85.
