Hi from Germany 120d Convertible

Hi @ all,

I singed in today...

I became my 120d Convertible in May this year and totally happy. Before this I had a Mini Cooper, which was/ is also a nice car, but you feel really the difference.

Here are a few pics.

PS: The last picture was difficult to shoot With my winter tires/ wheels I reached a V-Max of about 250 km/h, than another slow VW was in front of me

Thanks

I'm living near Düsseldorf....

According to the engine:

I drove before I got my diesel a 135i convertible. The 135i makes a lot of fun and is on our "Autobahn" (Motorway) very smooth and fast. However, there is hugh difference between the Diesel with 177HP and the 135i, but it makes also a lot of fun. The engine is also relatively quite for diesel and you can feel that the diesel has a lot more power when you are driving.

As you see in the picture above, the car isn't so much slower than a 330d Wagon or even a 530d Wagon. Moreover I just need at a maximum (I'm driving very fast on the Autobahn) about 7.5 ltr/ 100 km. (Sorry I'm a bit lazy to covert this know in the american system). At the minimum about 5.1 - 5.3 ltr/ 100 km.

Additionally, when I'm driving open (totally open) than I reach about 210 km/h... With an 135i is about 230 km/h possible (a friend of me had one).

Maybe I will buy within the next to week the PP Kit for the 120d where it get about 197HP and should be a bit faster than the standard.

.....

Here is also our new additionally business and city car, which I drove about 4 weeks ago (I'm not at home at the moment). The new F20 isn't my favorite BMW, because it is a little bit a Mini with the different colors etc...
It is a 118d with about 143HP and there you also feel a big difference to the 120d...

Chicken Dinner,

Thank you for the response. I have heard good things about the modern BMW diesel engines, and understand that the 120d makes an enormous amount of torque.

Enjoy your new ride.

Nice to see that manuals are still as popular as ever in Germany. On another note the seats in that F20 are not the most attractive I have ever seen.

There is a big difference between between the two cars. 7.5L verbrauch for the diesel vs 40L verbrauch! lol Normally is more like 6L vs 11L though.

I bet your friends 135 does have sport seats or M-package option. With it comes option #840. 840 Increased top speed limiter

Normally all BMW's are limited to 210 kph. (remember your speedo will read higher!). When a car has option #840, it is limited to 250 kph.

Btw... my 135i does 280 kph verified by my Navi. I think the true top speed is another 10 kph or so more. I just have not found teh right autobahn to "test it".

@ Dackelone:

The average fuel consumption is lower about 5.9 - 6.2 ltr/ 100km whereas the 135i needs about 11 - 12 ltr/ 100 km.
According to the maximum limit - the 120d, 120i and 123d have integrated limit, just the lower power and the physical conditions of the car limits the speed...
In Germany is no option about the Vmax available...
230km/h of my friends 135i is just open!!!! When he close his car than about 260 km/h.
Note that when we are driving open and the windows are also down (like in the pictures above) the car has another aerodynamic on the road
Im also stated kilometers per hour and not miles per hour :P

@ ulrichd

Yes, the F20 isn't a nice car, however I'm normally driving my convertible
The seats are not my favorite... In a few weeks, when I'm back home I will shoot better pictures and you should not be afraid about the new designed interior light which is green/ blue (you can select in the menue). It's the same as in the Mini Cooper, but it doesn't fit to the 1 series...
