Exhaust options - softer than PE, louder than stock?

Now that I've installed my AA headers, I decided to also remove my PE because the combo was way too loud for my liking and the cabin drone was being accentuated. I really enjoyed the sound of the PE (minus the drone) and feel that the stock exhaust neuters the characteristic of the car. I was wondering if there are any exhaust options that's softer than the PE, but louder than stock...or is this just a pipe dream?

The exhaust thread gives me an idea of how things sound, but not necessarily how loud they are. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Removing 400 Cel Cats is going to make noise. Have you tried going back to the OE muffler in combination with the new AA header? You might be surprised at the additional noise.

I have the SS header with BMWPE and at around 78mph(75mph per GPS) on the highway it quiets down nicely.

135i muffler. They go for cheap.
With your resonator still intact, (it can be removed if you want to go louder)

135i muffler is what you want. Louder than stock, quieter than PE, no drone ever. I have it and have gotten several compliments on the tone. I want something a little louder so I'm going to try a muffler delete once I can find some time to get it done.

Yep, I expected noise. When I pulled the trigger, I was willing to give up sound for more power. What am I complaining about then? Eh , I thought I'd try to see what others have to say.

I slapped the OE muffler on yesterday and was pretty disappointed. I feel like it has been castrated.

I tried with the PE on for a few days and was like "NOPE!".

Just do a Borla XS muffler. Quiet AND free flowing.

135i axelback. It and catless headers make a great sound. OR if you want so spend more (a lot more, as a 135i muffler goes for $100) you can go with the Supersprint muffler, which has a great sound paired with the headers

I've heard both these combos in person. Headers with a Supersprint muffler is quieter than headers with a 135i muffler.

135i muffler would fall right between the PE and stock. The entire 135i muffler and axleback(resonator delete) will be louder than PE and a bit raspier.

Best combo i've found is catless headers+135i muffler IMO.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Seems like the 135i axleback is exactly what I want. Time to research my next project!

Thanks for confirming about 135i muffler

I'll be going headers this season so I will either have
My current exhaust with: No middle cat, no resonator and 135i. It will probably hurt my ears and my nose

Or the more sensible 128i catted exhaust with just the rear muffler changed, resonator intact. It should sound exactly like my current setup

Got a 135i axleback with tips in my attic going unloved. PM me if you want it. I'm positive we can work out a price that makes us both happy.

Are you talking about headers with catted mid and the 135i muffler with 128i resonator intact? Or is resonator removed?

Any idea where i can get a video?

catless headers and entire axleback. I have a resonator delete but being honest it's a bit raspy for me. I'm thinking this might sound better.
