128i engine problem?

So I have my 2013 128i and I notice now more recently that when I'm accelerating in any drive mode ,specifically standard drive, it cuts on and off, happened badly enough today my engine light turned on and when in idle shook really rough. Drive grandma style (really light) and the car settled and the engine turned off after about 10-15 miles. Not sure what's going on. Anyone with similar issues? If so what's going on.

Is it throwing any error codes? How many miles? Mine did that when it needed coils at 90,000 miles. I got all six coils and plugs from Amazon for about $130, took half an hour to install. Wasn't that bad and completely fixed my stumbling and idle problems.

Nothings popped up on the dash other than the check engine light but went away after I drove extremely conservative. I'm at 47k miles. And it only idled rough after the engine was braking up during acceleration.

You need to have the stored fault codes read with a BMW-specific scanner. If you lit the CEL, you have stored codes.

Ah ok good to know, I'm assuming the best place to go for a scan Is bmw or a bmw specialist?

Yep. Try to find a BMW or Euro specialist indy shop, and explain the situation and what you would like them to do. Many shops will have a flat fee for scanning, and are often happy to offer thoughts on what the cause might be.

Tempting though it might be, don't go to a generic auto parts store for a free scan - basic OBD2 codes are not going to help you here.

my bet is bad coil or plug. Mine has a weird idle when cold, but not stalling out or cel. mine has 59k.

The easy test for bad coils (per a long-time BMW master mechanic) is to get rolling around 25mph, put it in 6th, and floor it. If it doesn't misfire with that load, the coils are fine.

Haven't gotten a chance to go get a scan but, I've noticed that when Im accelerating if I push the pedal slowly or keep it at low push, it starts breaking up. But when I'm accelerating and I push the pedal all the way through until I get to my speed it's like a brand new car🤔

Get the codes. Based on that, I'm guessing coils are not the sole issue, though they may still be part of a more complex problem.

Just got a call back from the dealer, it was igniting could and my spark plugs, it's under warranty so I'm just going to let them deal with it.

That's what warranties are for.

Spark plugs weren't under warranty, labor was 250 for the job, said no so now I've got to swap those out soon, not a big deal. She runs great now. Definitely missed her 😀
