when you say CSL style rims do you mean the 1M wheels? i think they look great on the 1m's and would recommend going with either a genuine or replica one!

have a look at cm wheels. these guys are in UK. friend just bought E46 M3 CSL rep wheels and they are great quality. they also have 19" 1M wheels among others

Avant garde makes good replicas
They are 359m wheels there's a thread on here about them somewhere and we found a place in uk that could land them in 335i offset in oz for 1600 aud.

cheers thanks. the problem I have is not knowing exactly what ET I need when retaining the original hubs so I guess I will have to wait and get it all measured up. VMR also have some nice wheels and as I am trying to stick to the 9' & 10" originals many of the wheels available are only 8.5" and 9.5" which again will impact the offset.

I think you can work it out from the various threads about offsets of wheels on 1M vs 135i. What you want is the same wheels as a 1M + the difference in offset between 1M and 135i. I would maybe go 5mm shy of that to be conservative and then use spacers to get it to fit perfect.

This should help

So glad to see this project coming along nicely. Any major roadblocks?

Can you not fit 1M wheels onto original hubs??
As for offset , you are running 1M body, so whatever they run you can do too , no?

By looking at the charts in that link the standard wheels are very different
E82 135i F 18x7.5 ET49
R 18x8.5 ET52
E82 1M F 19x9.0 ET31
R 19x10 ET25

The 1M has a lower offset by about 27mm in the rear and 18mm in the front
A lower number means wheels stick out more.

The wheels are wider as well though so maybe the hubs are slightly different

If you assume that both cars locate the inside edge of their respective tyres to achieve the same clearance from the strut/suspension
You can workout the offset difference you'll need.
Start with the difference in width of stock wheels It is 1.5 inches on the front and rear which is 37mm
Half of that goes toward the inside of the wheel. So 18.5mm
For front
49-18.5 = 31 which happens to be the same offset as the stock 1M wheels
For rear
52-18.5=33.5 which is 8mm difference from 1M

That means you should be able to use stock 1M wheels on the front and stock on the back with an 8mm spacer.....

Ive made a number of assumptions any of which might be incorrect here so dont quote me please do your own research!!

maybe one of local members who have the 1M wheels can stop by shop and trial fit, see if it hits the strut etc...

No road blocks at this point. Work proper will commence early June. I have done a lot of research and a lot of confidence in the body shop so thanks to others before me we should have most things covered.

I am not too worried about the wheels I was trying to determine what may fit given we have limited choices in Aus. I believe the 135i hubs stick out 20mm further than the 1M so I guess without spacers the 1M wont fill out the guards. I believe spacers are illegal in Aus. As suggested I will at least wait until the build phase is done and then get the wheel situation measured up. I will use the suggested site and do some calcs, and I have researched other conversions but most have done the M3 hub conversion which puts it back to 1M specs. No hassles.

The wheels definitely fit its just the positioning of the hubs. The 135i has a wider track in the hubs at least as the 1M setup is the same as the M3. I believe BMW went with the wider hubs to achieve a more aggressive rear drive set up hence different than the 130i etc.

I've done the conversion but just saw this thread, sorry.

135i rear hubs are 10mm wider each side than 1M.
This can be sorted with the right combination of hub flanges and rear brake discs or wheels with 10mm more offset. If anyone is interested I'll update this post with the parts required for the mod. Also, my converted hubs will be available soon (to make way for full M3 rear end).

There is a lot of room on the inside so I'd even go more than 10mm extra if planning wide wheels. With the converted hubs I'm running 19x11 ET25 with 295/30 Pilot Super Sports & -2 camber and they rub very slightly on the guard.

I have this sorted now. I contacted VMR Wheels who provided me with the following:

"VMR what do you recommend in 19" for a 1M conversion retaining stock 135i hub setup? In Australia."

I would recommend something like a 19x9.5 ET22 in the front and 19x10 ET25 in the rear. If you're interested in picking up a set of VMR Wheels in Australia, contact Mars Performance.

Going with the 710

^ so they recommend the front more aggressive than original 1M wheel and rears kept the same.

why dont you just get original 1M wheels then or replicas of them?? i think the sharper curves of them suits the 1M better than the older csl replicas like VMR sell. just my 2 cents.

They do another CSL rep called the V703 and a more modern style in the V810 so yes that is also an option so appreciate the thought.

The issue I am finding because I am keeping my standard 135i hubs is that most wheels on sale are either 8.5/9.5 for the front and 10+ for the rear. So the only reason they have suggested an aggressive for the front is they simply do not offer a 9" wide wheel. So I either go 8.5 front 9.5 rear or 9.5 front and 10 rear. I am limited to what is on offer, which is not a lot for 1 series, and VMR are one of the very few manufacturers that offer the required offsets without fabrication. At around $1,600 a set they are within my budget.

I was looking at Simmons OM1 but only come in 20" and only 8.5 & 9.5. Custom OM's run at $4,000+ per set and as mentioned they are more of a BBS style than the CSL style.

I cannot go with real 1M rims partly because the rears will not fit due to the wider 135i hubs and they are super expensive and rare.

No worries.

Have you tried getting a quote from UK website I posted earlier? They have some nice wheels on there and also do replica 1M wheel...

Sounds like I’m being pushy towards 1M wheels but not trying to be. Just love them on my white 1M and think they suit it perfectly.

Yes checked out CM Wheels. Their CSL reps are around $1,500 delivered to Aus which includes GST but no import duties which is around the same price as VMR which I can check out & return if any issues. Unfortunately their reps are only 8" & 9" with high offsets around et38 so wont work on my car.

I also love the 1M rims but my aim is around modifying my car with a factory look - I am not trying to exactly replicate a 1M so if things are a bit different on mine then I am achieving what I set out to do.
