How often to change oil for 135i that is hardly driven?

My 2009 135i has 72k miles on it that I have had since new. When I was at the dealer to get the break in service done on my 2020 X3MC, I inquired when the last oil change on my 135i was performed. February 2019 at 71k miles.

Since I have only driven the 135i about 1,000 miles in the past year, should I change the oil on an annual basis or at some other interval?

Over the past two years I was driving a leased car so I used that 99% of the time instead of putting miles on the 135i and it will probably continue that way now that I have replaced the lease with the X3MC.

You will get various opinions on this. Some people will advise once per year, regardless of mileage. Others will suggest for 24 months or 5000 miles. You can also get information from CBS from your computer, it will tell you when the next oil service is due (providing the dealer updated CBS on your last oil change).

Indeed!

I have always done annual for my car, even though it's lately only getting about 1,000 miles a year (new kid I need to take to daycare = driving an X3 most of the time). I've done oil analysis a couple of times and they are saying I can go much longer. It's not that difficult (I DIY it) or expensive so I've been sticking to the 1 year thing.

Tons of opinions on the subject but I run annual changes for cars that aren't driven much. Pair with a Blackstone report and you'll be golden. For around $100 if you DIY with a report isn't much of an outlay for peace of mind.
