Trying to Rename an Album in iDrive - What Am I Doing Wrong???
Thus far, I've stored 2 CDs (albums) in my "Music Collection" (on the car's hard drive). One showed the title of the album properly, but the other (the soundtrack from Wicked - an original disc, not a copy) shows only a bunch of rectangles. So I'm trying to rename it, but it's not working.
And yes, I . It says to choose "CD/Multimedia," then "Music Collection," then highlight the desired album, and open "Options." So far, so good, but then "Rename Album" is blanked out, so I can't select it. I have the same issue for BOTH albums I stored. I can select "Delete Album", but not "Rename Album." The OM says you can't rename an album if it's currently playing, so I made sure the OTHER album was playing when I tried this. Then, I tried turning off the system (using the pushbutton on the dash). Still no luck. Am I missing something here???

Give it a try, and let me know if you have better luck than I did.

Thanks for testing that!
I may have figured it out, tho I'm going to talk to my dealer about it. The manual says you can't rename an album that's currently playing, but that appears to be incorrect. Instead, it appears that you can only rename an album when you first load it into the hard drive (whether it's playing or not). Apparently, after a certain amount of time - or, more likely, when you start loading another album, you lose the ability to rename it. (Still trying to figure out exactly what ends the sacred "window of opportunity to rename.") So that means that, to rename an album down the road, I'll have to delete it, and then reload it. I cannot imagine why you wouldn't be able to do that at any time. Makes no sense. Honestly, I think the iDrive was programmed by the proverbial roomful of monkeys.

Spoke to the dealer's head tech about this on Saturday. He tells me that it's a function of the original CD - some allow you to rename the album, and others are "locked down" electronically, preventing you from doing it. I'll play with it some more to see if I can confirm that.
