N55 JB3

Hi All,

I am about to order the N55 Jb3 from BMS for my N55. Need some feed back on the unit if anyone has them installed on their car. I have heard that it will throw the oxygen sensor code and damage the CAT due to the mapping. Can someone please shed some lights on this. Thanks!

a member in Brisbane has this on his car and to my knowledge has had no issues with the tune so far. I would suggest updating to the latest BMW DME firmware also as they completely revised the boost control algorithms to be more like the N54 which is obviously far superior

Thanks Orlin!

Sorry I am a newbie in the tuning world. Can I ask how do I update the firmware? There must be some sort of website for me to do so. Not sure if the new N55 Jb3 kit allow me to do so. Thanks!

no worries mate, actually it needs to be done at any BMW dealership. I would suggest getting it done before you install the JB3 to save you taking it out again for the dealer visit. The install itself only takes about 15 mins if you know what your doing or 30 mins if you take your time and following the install instructions on the BMS website.

Orlin,

I have brought my car in for a service and the car felt different after that. The car felt smoother and better on light throttle. Could BMW updated the firmware already for me? How can I check that?

It is possible, when did you take it in? I think the only way to check it is to use the BT tool which I dont think you would have. I have put the link to this product below. Did BMW give you any paperwork that tells you what work was done? otherwise you may just have to call them.

Hi Ianf2002,

I am still waiting for it to arrive. Hope to get it by mid this week and will have it install this weekend. I will let you know about the result.

As for the CAT issue, I found that on E90 forum after I have done a search and found that someone does have that problem in the US. But that member is the only guy that encounter that problem. Not sure it will happen here, but hey, someone have to take the first step!! And its ME I guess...........wish me luck with some good result from this N55 Jb3.

Hey buddy

Just noticed your post, I have been running a JB3 in my N55 here in Brissy for a little while now and had no problems what so ever. Took about 30min or so to install and was a little frustrating but no cutting or soldering etc required.... to be honest if I had to install it again it might take half the time.

The tune is great and the power upgrade is well worth the money. I have had no CEL or dramas like that what so ever.

If you need to or want to know more just ask but in my option... GO FOR IT.

Let me know, I just picked up a new n55 a couple days ago and am eager to chip it. I only have 100 miles on it, do I have to wait to break it in first?

hey ianf2002,

did you installed the jb3+?

The JB3 will be even better, just a bit longer to install. I don't plan to tuck it away in the ECU box, rather buy a small electrical box to house the control unit and secure it within the engine bay. This will make it a 10 min install.
Thats a good bargin. JB+ for a JB3. Wow, can you please shed some lights on the installation without taking off the "whatever they call it" off? That will make installation much more easier. Thanks!

I've been running the JB3 for about a month. The power is very noticable. It makes the car increadibly fast. I'm actually thinking of removing it. The whole warranty thing still bothers me. I had a local shop do the install. He said he has installed 30+ of them. It still took him 20 minutes. I just don't want to mess with taking it on and off if I need to go into the dealership for anything. Someone here in Denver was denied warranty because he installed an OCC and BOV.

IanF2002,

I have an alarm on the car. Do I need to do something to it before I let the ECU to sleep?

Guys, just installed the N55 JB3, took it for a spin and a quick update on that.

- So far no Code or CEL on (keep finger cross it will never happen)
- Noticeable power improvement over midrange
- Car felt really quick but did not have the "shove" in the seat as my mod WRX. I like the power delivery of the new tune.
- Notice that the car stay on rev even on normal drive mode. Not sure its me or the tune.
- I will do a launch control tomorrow with my iphone to see the 0-100 time. I have done that before the tune and its 5.38s. Lets see if there is some improvement.
