Intercooler Water Spray. I was bored.

My car is booked in today for some warranty work at the dealer so while I was removing some of my mods I thought about having some fun until I get meth. I ran a rubber tube from my the wiper washers on the bonnet down to spray on my intercooler. I attached a misting nozzle at the end to spray at the IC. Hooked up my JB4 to my laptop and went for a drive and what do you know it worked. My IAT's were about mid 70's and once I would spray it would drop down to the low 60's. So I thought with such low inlet are temps why not up the boost, so I ran a log at 15.5psi and ignition advance was spot on. Car felt really good. For you guys that don't have an upgraded FMIC go to Supercheap Auto's and you can buy a washer bottle kit for about $20 that includes tank, pump, hoses, wiring and ON/OFF switch and hook it up in your trunk. I would definitely recommend a good FMIC or meth injection over this but like I said I was just messing around.

It's kind of rewarding when you accomplish something yourself.
One negative side was that my wipers were going all the time but I worked out a way to spray the water without them coming on.

Thanks alik.
Once I get my car back I'll do it again and post some pics. It was alot of fun. Kind of like your own Nitrous switch but not as effective.

It's genius - nothing short of it! I think this is why Australia has so many of the world's inventions to its name - so many extremely clever bastards, just willing to have a go at anything!

Very clever. I bet you can't wait for the real thing though Out of interest, which mods did you remove before your trip to the dealer?

Thanks Matt.

Whenever you pull the wiper/washer lever to squirt only hold it for half a second and your wipers wont come on.

Hey Sly, I actually didn't remove much at all only removed my bov's and DCI and tucked the USB in behind the ECU box. I left the JB4 in but disabled it to map 0 and also left the FMIC and Downpipes in. As it's my last visit before my warranty ends I really couldn't give a S!!T what they say. I think there cool but cause my mate owns a performance shop 20 metres accross the road and they see me and the 135 there all the time not to mention you can see my car on the dyno from the BMW service centre.

Lol that's too funny. They would know all about your mods if they see your car sitting on the dyno across the road! Can I ask what the warranty work was for or was it just a dealer visit? Btw, does your BOV tap into the stock charge pipe? If that's the case, removing the BOV + DCI and reinstalling the stock parts would only take you about 30 minutes max and they are the most visible mods.

I have a noisy lifter. No at least when you look at the motor it doesn't look as if its overly modified. They know I have dp's and IC. I'm still testing the prototypes for Turbosmart and yes they just snap into the stock charge pipe. Take all of 5 minutes. These Turbosmart bov's are constructed so well. I'll take some pics and post them. They sound great and definitely give you a little more throttle response not too mention the stock diverters can leak a little over 14psi.

I'm assuming you have an early model N54 because you're approaching the end of warranty. The early models have the 2 piece CP design with a separate elblow. Is your plan to run the Turbosmart BOV on the stock CP and replace the elbow when it's time to run meth or just tap a nozzle into the stock elbow? I've been on this forum for a while and haven't heard of too many people blowing off their stock CP. I think the factory C-clips that BMW uses are very durable and even ER implemented it into their throttle body connection for their CP. HPF did the same for their FMIC and it weighs a ton. I just don't like the factory rubber elbow, it just doesn't look right to me and looks like a weak point that could leak. I think the Turbosmart is a good solution for those wanting to retain the stock CP though. Look forward to some pics and possibly some sound clips?

Yes, I'm planning on using the stock CP with the AR Elbow when I run meth. I hate that stock rubber elbow also. Agree the C clips seem to hold really well. The atmospheric bov's are loud though. It's so funny cause people do a double take when they hear it cause it just doesn't fit the BMW look. Sometime I think I'm driving a skyline or supra.

I know it's not everyone's thing but I think the right BOV can sound kind of cool. I bet nobody expects to hear that sound from a BMW

I've now added metho to my windscreen washer fluid as well as water and I can feel the difference. Very slight but works.

How long does the temp stay down for? Are we talking 4-5seconds, or 20+seconds?

At least 20+ seconds.
Here's a diagram of a setup with a separate switch for ON/OFF.

I take it these aren't allowed to be used at the drag strip?

That's right, this would not be legal at the drag strip. In fact it would get you kicked out :-)
