iPhone/iPod Connectivity
Can anyone enlighten me on how to connect your apple devise to the 1M?
Do you get the cables that you need to connect the iPhone/iPod with the 1M? Has anyone with a 1M/ 1 series got any pictures or comments on the system? |

If you have Bluetooth (and the ComBox controller) you use the white cable that came with the iPod / iPhone. Otherwise you should have gotten the BMW y-cable.

Bill, can you confirm that you need to use the Y cable? That would mean the car does not have the updated 6FL from the September 2010 production changes. You should be able to plug in directly with the Apple supplied USB cable and forget the Y.
From the 09/10 production change press release: iPod One-wire integration: No longer will an iPod connection require the “Y-cable”. The original iPod USB cable is all that is required to connect the device to the vehicle. This simplifies the connection by not requiring the aux-input. The music is transferred directly from the iPod digitally to the HiFi system via USB. Therefore as of September, the Y-Cable will no longer be included with iPod/USB Adapter (6FL). |

I use the Y cable with my IPod Touch, that is hooked up to the ports in the center console. That way I have easy access to my music and playlists (except for the Genius playlists). My mobile (non-Apple) is in the glove box and is connected to the USB port there for charging. The phones connectivity works via bluetooth. Right now I am not using the app features, I'll probably buy an IPhone just to play around with the in-car apps. (I prefer a smartphone that has a real keyboard and not a touchscreen for business use.)
The thing I'll play around with next in the 1er is Kiwi WiFi (OBDII connection) in order to have complete and serious data logging for the IPod.

Thanks! Looks really good. To be honest I cant 100% remember whether I ordered the bluetooth package or not. Im pretty sure I did. But as long as I can play my songs somehow, I will be happy! Thanks everyone for your help. |
