Yup, very true, but since I have not seen nor drive it in well over a year it really has little importance to me.

^^i guess we got ourselves an M1?
I disagree. Look REALLY close at the bumper of the 135i. This is it, the bad lighting and color is hiding it. It has the same deep center of the bumper that the pic above has. PLUS, a current M car would never have the pipes situated like that.

I honestly don't think there is going to be an M version of the 1-series.

Silly as it may sound, Mobile Tradition is pretty hung up on maintaining the heritage of BMW and there was already an M1. To name another that has nothing in common whatsoever with its predecessor would be sacrilege by Mobile Tradition standards.

After extensive searching, I couldnt find a picture of the underside of the exhaust on the 535. But I would be willing to bet that the 535 has a dual exhaust. It may have one can (much like a 540/545/550) but I cant imagine how the twin, parallel turbos would work without a dual exhaust.

No one said the 535i doesn't have a dual exhaust. Just that it doesn't have dual mufflers resulting in two separate exhaust tips on either side of the rear bumper.

I see your logic, but times have changed. Corvettes had pop up lights for 40 years too. M3's have never had V8's. BMW never made mini-van type things or SUV.(That new F3 or whatever) When it boils down to it, its about making money and keeping up or staying above the competition. Japan has VERY fast econobox's such as the STI and EVO for a reasonable price. I say its about damn time Germany pumps out something that could compete, even if it is 3-4k more in cost.

the idea of an M1 would go along exactly with the performance oriented goals of the 1 series.. and if theyre releasing it with a N54 right off the bat, theyre not messing around..

I'm not saying BMW shouldn't make a performance version of the 1-series. I'm simply saying they will not call it an M1.

My guess is that they will offer up a Performance package like they did on the E46.

The Corvette is still a Corvette, whether it has pop-up headlights or not. That's because it maintains the core of what a Corvette is - a large horsepower engine stuffed into a lightweight 2-seat sports car with RWD. Same goes for the M3. It's still a high-revving powerplant in a FR platform just like the original E30 M3.

The original M1 is a mid-engined supercar. The 1-series is not mid-engined nor is it even remotely close to being considered a supercar. I still contend that if there is a higher performance version of the 1, it will not be called an M1.

If you look closely, you can see the third brake light embedded into the trunk lid.

I see it. Look closely and you will see the outline. The exterior color is hiding it. There is not one in the rear window, it is above the Roundel.

BTW, those wheels do nothing for me. . Maybe they are the regular wheel and the 5 spokes are part of the ZSP (Sport Pkg).

Dont' like the wheels at all. I'll reserve judgment til better pics are released. These pics had to be purposely leaked by BMW.

What I dont understand then is why there isnt any sort of light in that area in this picture:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/attac...1&d=1182902527

The only way to achieve that picture is with the headlights on which should require a third-brake light to be in a dim mode. Correct?

Damn... I was hoping for the amber reflectors in the headlights (e.g. 3 series).

I would get CSL reps anyway--I'm not a fan of those wheels either....

It's a weird coupla pics...snapshot quality, but there's a lot to see-
BMW certainly is touting this burnt red color...if everything goes on schedule we'll be happy as pigs in mud by this time next week.
