Car died - need diagnostics

Hi all - I didn't see a sub-forum for it, and I've spent an hour now reading through posts from searches and I still don't know what to do.

2013 135is died yesterday, wife was driving it so I don't have first-hand knowledge of what went wrong. I suspect water pump failure, engine shut-down.

I'm trying to connect to the car for the first time. I have INPA which I use for my E36/46/90. I connected using INPA/K+DCAN and do not see my N55 engine. The platform option is for E87 (but that option also lists E82). When I select that platform and choose engine, there is no N55 option.

Can someone guide me to a definitive thread/post/video on how to properly set up diagnostics for this platform?

Over the deafening silence of >crickets<, I reinstalled INPA/ISTA using Mike's Easy etc. Nice ether trip to New Zealand.

Still no joy. Fuck it I'm tired of wrestling with that software. I only have so many years left.

I ordered the Bavarian Technic cable. Can't do shit with it except check codes, but jesus I'd gladly pay anything just to have something that does that and works. every. time.

While I awaited the cable from the hellfire of Oregon, I went ahead and replaced the water pump/thermostat since that seemed to me the be the most likely cause. Car has been running great since.

Today the cable finally came in. Yep - that was it.

No idea - I tried multiple cables. I have a half dozen cables from my attempts to use it over the years. This one works for that car; that one works for the other car; this one works for both cars but has a switch built in; this Chinese one from eBay doesn't work at all; etc. etc.

My experience with INPA/ISTA is that it's very touchy. I simply don't have the time/skill/patience for soldering pins and tweaking software. So for me the Bav tool is the way to go - limited functionality but works every time.
