My first 'mod' was the addition of the Amazon Echo Auto. For $50 you get Bluetooth audio and ability yell at the car to tell you where you're going, or to play music from your streaming service of choice, or turn on the porch lights when you pull up to your house.

The only negative is no steering wheel controls, but the voice commands work really well even with the windows down and music blasting.

I put the "non ventilated" airbox cover back on today. I think more than half of the sound the car makes is from the airbox. It is definitely quieter.

I'd love to dyno the two back to back one day. I think I'd find more torque without the hole and more top end with the hole. At least that is the way it feels.

Do you have a means to measure/monitor the MAF sensor just after the intake box? I’m going to try to get some quantitative data for stock, charcoal filter delet and finally a performance filter and see if there’s a measurable difference in MAF readings

Maybe torque pro would produce something useful? Other than that no...

Question for fellow 128 people in the know. I have a 2011 base model 128i vert with the factory 16 inch wheels. I would like to go with 17/18 inch wheels, probably stock from another car 135? What wheels/tire combo, if any, would I be able to go with without any susp or fender work being necessary? Thanks for any advice, Art

There is a whole thread on wheel tire combos. start there. Not here.

I did but pretty difficult to see my question answered. Most have some sort of mods, aftermarket wheels, etc altering the foundation of my specific post question.

Here's a link to the RealOEM web page showing the wheels offered for sale by BMW for a 2011 128i. Drill down to get all the different sizes and offsets of wheels offered by BMW. Guaranteed to fit.

Winter wheels and tires.

We don't see much winter and I have trucks for real snow, but Pilot Sports just don't do well in the cold. We also have 4 months of huge pot hole seasons and it 1sn't like I can just go buy another Apex Aero 7.

Set up some Sparco Trofeo 17 x 7.5 with Bridgestone All Season Run flats 225/45-17 square.

https://www.sparcowheels.com/wheels/sparco/trofeo-5

Much less grip than the Pilot Sports today when it is in the 70's. They are still new so saw more DCT light than I have in months!

Nice, those are pretty good looking wheels honestly. Is the center cap able to be replaced by a BMW one?

They are smaller diameter than the oem center cap. I need to do some measuring and see what I can do to change that.

I know that some folks have tackled that problem by finding a decal that sticks over the cap area.

This. Basically any 17 or 18" wheel from any 1 Series is going to fit. Should be lots available used as lots of people have changed wheels. Also, Apex Wheels and probably others have great lightweight wheels, correct offset that fit our cars, no spacers, no issues. I went from #263 staggered 18" to Apex Arc8's, 18x8 1/2, ET45, no problem (225/40/18 all around).

Replaced CHMSL today. Third brake light. Had to trim the ridge on the part. installed fine.

Also installed Bilstein Sport replacement (Black) for OEM shocks. Still need to put the interior trunk panels...and then go drive it.

Put dinan rear shock mounts on as well. Lots less foam than OEM mounts. Will be interesting to see what the difference is.

Both my OEM shocks were blown and leaking.

Easy swap.

UPDATE.

Drove it and back end feels much more planted. Who knows how much of that is Dinan mounts or new Bilsteins. I am sure some of each contributed.

Looks good Ric, glad to see you back in a proper 1er! I miss mine everyday.

Not sure if it's your camera or not, but your headlight lenses can be brought back to life fairly easily with a headlight restore kit. I was able to bring my E91 lenses back from the dead. You could also swap brand new Euro units without the amber reflector if that's your thing like Suprgnat. Blacklines would look great as well!

Also nice to see there is an alternative to a PE since they're nearly unobtainum at this point in time.

I definitely need to redo the lenses. I did them once but didn't get them perfect and didn't clear coat. I should shop some euro ones... I like the old style lamps on the tail with the red car.

I do enjoy the exhaust as it is but would love a PE still....I have dibs on one if a friend sells his.

The headlights are fairly inexpensive, Schmiedmann sells a wide variety and their shipping is quick from Europe. Love the build!

Hellas are $250 a piece: https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/bmw-E...t=63117249649H

Summer wheels are back!

It is always such a shock to go from all seasons to real performance tires. It is such a big change in terms of feel and grip and just this attitude that the car takes on. Transformational!!
