128i 6MT - Stuck Driveshaft
Attempting to swap in a new pumpkin this weekend to change my final drive and upgrade to an LSD, and I've used desertman123 's excellent diff swap thread (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1418770) and everything was going great until I found that the diff and the driveshaft refuse to separate after I've dropped the pumpkin
I've hit it with a few passes of PB Blast, been whacking away with a rubber hammer, chiseling away with a pick, tried jamming a hex driver in that gap between the u-joint and the input flange and rolling like a strut spreader, nothing's working. Anyone ever run into this, or have a good suggestion for separating these two flanges? |

Let it sit in wd40 for a while and hammer it. If it dosent work, you have to heat it up and hammer it because there seem to be rust

Just let it soak for a bit. Maybe raise the car higher up so you can really get a good wack at it

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Overnight soak in PB and then a paint scraper to get things started for the crowbar, and now it's out!
Shocker - the diff cover's being difficult too, but hopefully the same approach will work there as well... (if not, that's a reasonably cheap replacement at least) |

Look into the E60 Finned diff cover; looks cool and would help keep an LSD cool, plus I think they have a proper drain plug...

Depends on how you use/abuse the diff. Usually with a clutch-type, you want to keep it cool to reduce wear and prevent damage. With a helical-type, they don't generate much heat at all, and won't need the cooling.
