Depends what stage you run. Since we use the N54 motor, it's virtually the same as the other N54's (135, 335, etc). The "gains" are different (Because we start off with 35 more hp), but the final number should be the same.

Very interested, have been trying to get some more details on this though. I ordered my second bmw just last month so it should be here soon. It is a 135is and I'm just wondering how the "tune" actually works. Any details in this I would greatly appreciate. And just out of curiosity, why are you getting rid of it?

Hi Ian,
You would simply download one of Cobb's "Off The Shelf" (OTS) maps. You pick a tune based on what hardware you have installed in your car. Stage0 - Stock, AP installed -- This gives you the ability to monitor the stock car parameters. No tune installed but AP is active. You can also completely uninstall it if you need to visit the dealership. Changing maps takes a few minutes, uninstalling and reinstalling takes about 35 minutes. Stage1 - This essentially is a stock vehicle but with a Cobb tune. (For the 1M, this was essentially a few extra PSI and slightly more aggressive timing -- It took my car from 320 whp stock to ~365 whp). Stage2 is for when you upgrade some exhaust components, such as downpipes, etc. This is where things get fun I haven't dynoed the car, but I'm assuming I'm at about 390 whp (~450hp @ the crank) To make things even more fun, Cobb has two flavors of each map. Regular 91 octane maps and 93/94 octane maps, which make even more power. There are also maps if you have an upgraded intercooler. Once you exceed the OTS maps, you can also pay someone to e-tune you --- They read your maps and create a custom map for your car. This yields ultimate results, since Cobb OTS maps are very safe and leave a lot of power on the table that can easily be had. Also, Cobb has special race fuel maps which give you over 500 whp Here are OTS map samples: http://www.cobbtuning.com/BMW-N54-Ac...w/BMW-OTS-Maps There's map notes there as well. (The red boxes in the link above = your ECU model. The AP will tell you what it is when you install it) Reason for getting rid of it is I've been spending a lot of money on the M3 and I'm getting "wifed" |

Thanks for info!
So you have successfully gone to the dealership after removing this and it didn't store anything in the cars computer that can be detected by the dealership? I've heard a chip flash will show up very easily and will void the warranty. Have you run into any of these problems? Also, it doesn't even show anything for the 13 135is so I'm not sure if this is even compatible. |

I've taken the car to the dealer with it uninstalled, they never said anything. But from my understanding, if they REALLY want to find it, they can send the ECU to Germany and they can do a deeper probe and discover it (Something about how many times the car has been flashed). A piggy back could still be detected since they crank up the boost (Since they often don't touch timing, unlike a flash tune) and BMW could detect that you've run excess boost pressure (Again, assumption here, I don't work for BMW --- General rule of thumb is, if you're worried about warranty, don't mod... But what fun is that?? Cobb already lists the 2013 135is on their site, but does not list the AP for it. That means they will have it soon. You can email them and ask when they plan to add support... I imagine it'll be done quickly since it's a mass produced car, unlike the 1M. Better for their business... |
