I had mine running events where it was 20min session consecutively and not heat soak or limp mode but I was modified. I ran an event where ambient temp was 97 degrees and still performed very well. The DINAN intercooler was 278% bigger than stock. It was a great car and very fun. The new one has even better cooling for track days, I am looking forward to putting it thru its paces on track once I get it.

But yes, nothing beats the sound of N/A, I used to track a light Honda weighing 2200 lbs and pushing 185whp at 9600 RPM. A BMW straight six or even the V8 on the E9X revving high is music to the ears. But the pull the turbo cars have at low end is amazing compared to some N/A cars.
Indeed, turbos just work better on the road. But the NA is almost dead, even rumors saying that the next GT3 will be turbocharged and BMW got rid of all NA engines with the F series, so did Mercedes and VW and the list goes on.

That E92 S65 V8....if only the fuel economy was not so bad, id probably get one.
Tuned they are actually not bad. My friend did a long road trip on his recently and it was yielding 22mpg which IMO is not that bad for a badass car like that. But you can drain the tank in a couple sessions on track. But that goes for the M2 also specially with the small tank it has. I would fill up the tank and might need a fill up before the session ended.

The amount of extra cooling when going racing (not your usual street and fun track car) is a bit crazy. I have seen the F82 M4 run with 2 extra oil coolers (+ factory) during RCN and VLN.

Those diffs can always be upgraded, i mean that is what happens with technology, but everytime i consider to replace my 125i, i keep finding myself looking at E46 M3s, then reality hits me and i smile at the 125i (due to much cheaper running costs for road and track). That S65 V8 is wonderful, but its fuel...on track they run out after 4 laps on Nürburgring (i do 9+ before the warning light comes on). The M2, from what i heard, can do around 6+ laps when pushed hard.

But there is no denying, that the new M cars have a way better base/foundation to start with as any E series cars, from chassis and handling perspective. They are almost "track ready", unless you convert to no interior, cage, racing brakes, suspension etc then cooling should be considered. For dual purpose, get in and drive and they say.
Not disagreeing with you but that would be one complex exercise to get the calibration and programming retrofitted.
Active M Diff:

Imo, this is the best thing about the F series cars.
EPS maybe because less drag on the engine with a belt driven pump? For now, if I had to get a EPS enthusiast car, it'd be a P car. Hope that changes and M philosphy distances itself from the majority of soft consumers

Do not forget, starting with the F series cars BMW made the locking diff available as an option, something previous generation cars never had (for a long time anyways).

Wish a used 1/2 series could bolt on to the E82 ^^

Yes they offer that on the M235i/M240i etc. But it is not the same as the Active M diff the "real" Ms get. The "active" diff, is literally, (pro)active! Ie, the banned one in most motorsport akin to Ferrari's e-diff. Read the link above.

I even think the BMWP diff for "normal" non-M is not a clutch-type LSD either. Most likely a torsen/helical type.

for some yes, for a 47 yr old like me still in good shape, nope,

been driving it daily for past months, only prob is getting in n out of that bucket seats lol

keeping my 1m, no need for M2C, major diff will be the steering if comparing to the M2C. 1M steering is still little favorable over my GT3, and that just a little, and slightly more comfy because of the seats.

Yeah, what's the deal with the M2's gas consumption on the track? A couple of weeks ago, a friend's M2 seemed like it was half the gas mileage of my stock 135i with an MHD tune. He had to refill to finish the day.

It's heavy on the consumption when pushing hard.

I did a 1000 mile trip on it and it was averaging 26mpg.. for a 400+ whp and 440+tq car it wasn't bad.

I don't believe my friend's M2 was tuned, so it was running stock hp, which isn't a ton more than my tuned 135i. Why is the car so much harder on consumption on the track?

It's thirsty is all I can think of. Might be it's tuned from factory safely so it's loaded on fuel under load to protect it.

The 135i is yielding me about 22 mpg. When I am pushing it around it is actually more thirsty than the M2!

Exactly as BAN_M2 said. Your tuned 135i probably has all the safety stuff off like cat protection mode. We don't have EGT, it's calculated from a predefined algorithm, but this mode is not hard to reach and throws the car into 10.8 AFR at WOT. Not saying this applies exactly the same way to the M2 especially considering it has completely different DME (Siemens IIRC), but surely something similar. Also, basic principle is RPMs turns stuff into consumables, including clutches, gearboxes, diffs as well as fuel etc etc THe N55 M2 has a wider powerband and he is probably winding it out to 6500 at least. Whereas our N54 with small turbos and a suboptimal cyl head/cams is no good above 6000 really, especially tuned. The N55 M2 also has shorter gear ratios which will probably result in a higher avg RPM.

I would have loved to get a tat drive but my dealer of 17 years decided to mark the M2Comp up 5k and capped the allocation. I was second in line but never got a call.
So...I said screw it. I went and found a 2014 981S MT with all the goodies and haven’t thought about BMW until now.
I still have my 1M but I’ve retired her from DD use.
The car will only see flawless weather and special events.

good call...... as BMW continues to disappoint with the weight of the M2.. M2C even heavier.... I am starting to really enjoy the 1M on track..

But ideally I would like to retire it to weekend drive/road trips/touring and picking up a used Cayman is becoming a more interesting idea... or possibly building a track only car like a spec E46...

FWIW, my 135i has an N55, and I also push it to about 6500 on the track.

Competition weight argument died pretty fast after reviews came out and nobody complained the added weight affected the handling. Actually they said car was feeling stiffer with better steering response, most likely the front brace.

Somebody also weighed an M2 and a Competition same scale back to back..

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1529257

3565 vs 3454

I already plan to change wheels, midpipe to single center and muffler, go Catless etc etc it all will make it weigh close to what the M2 was.

Got to mess with one last Friday. I like it but not as much as my 1M, They should of left the sunroof out to keep the weight off. I am also indifferent on the rear vs the 1M, something about how the whole rear is flared out vs the arch flares on the 1M

The sunroof is optional* and does not appear to be on the car you posted.

I personally find the M2C to be bland - but the M2 very different - LOVED the look of that. I can only surmise it is because of the new wheels.

*And I would have LOVED to have had a sunroof on my M2 (not avail in NA in 2017).
