135i - SCCA class with tune

i've had my 135i bone stock run under "D-Stock" in the SCCA autoX events...

Does anyone know what class the 135's falls under with a Tune (eg Cobb etc.)?

Ididn't find the answer via any searches

Some thing it may go in to the ST (Street Touring) class... but i'm not sure if the rules work in line with the tune... it would be great if someone can shed some light on this that may have done this.

thx!

Here's what the 2011 Solo Rules books says about ECU mods in those classes...

F. The engine management system parameters and operation may be
modified only via the methods listed below. Any and all modifications
must meet or exceed the applicable EPA tailpipe emissions standards
for the year, make, and model of the car. These allowances
also apply to forced induction cars, except that no changes to standard
boost levels, intercoolers, or boost controls are permitted. Boost
changes indirectly resulting from allowed modifications are permissible,
but directly altering or modifying the boost or turbo controls,
either mechanically or electronically, is strictly prohibited.

1. Reprogrammed ECU (via hardware and/or software) may be used
in the standard housing. Traction control parameters may not be
altered. Altered engine controllers may not alter boost levels in
forced induction engines. Alternate software maps which violate
these restrictions may not be present during competition, regardless
of activation.

Street Touring Class (ST)
Class Requirements and Restrictions:
Coupes/Sedans - 4 seats minimum
(non-sports car-based)
Engine Displacement:
Up to 3.1L normally aspirated
or
Small turbocharged engines
specifically listed below
No Limited-Slip Differentials
except factory standard
viscous types
No Electric or Hybrid-Electric
vehicles
Example Classifications:
BMW 3 Series (non-M)

Street Touring Class X (STX)
Class Requirements and Restrictions:
Coupes/Sedans - 4 seats minimum
(non-sports car based)
Engine Displacement:
Up to 5.1L normally aspirated
or
Up to 2.0L forced induction

I believe if you raise boost you will end up in BSP.

Any tune that increases your boost puts you in BSP like he said above. If you mess around with much an intercooler, BOV, or CDV it bumps you into Street Mod.

Heres the link you want:

Thx

Thanks guys.

Awesome link. I think I'll stay in d-stock for the rest of this season and then decide if I want to run with the big boys in BSP.

LoL

Was going thru the list and noticed that de-badging takes you out of D-Stock - lol... Maybe because of weight savings?

Come on man, everyone knows de-badging adds at least 10 hp.

No, but that's a funny one I put in because believe it or not they explicitly mention it in Street Touring:

Quote:
14.2.C: Factory rub strips, emblems, mud flaps, bolt-on front valance lips/
spoilers, and fog lights (except those integral to a headlight or turn
signal) may be removed.
...but not in Stock category. And as we know if it doesn't explicitly say you can do it, you can't do it. I think their point is to avoid people "nickel and diming" away weight by removing every little thing they can.

Back to the original question though; until Cobb comes out with a tune that does NOT alter boost for the AccessPort (doubtful at best), there are no 135i tunes allowable in Street Touring and you need to run BSP.

To further expand on this, even using JB3/4 or Proceed on STOCK mapping (or if they came out with a map that doesn't modify boost) is technically illegal:
"Alternate software maps which violate these restrictions may not be present during competition, regardless of activation."

The problem is it is difficult for them to police this in today's age of "hot-swap" capable tunes - they (SCCA) have no method to determine if you swapped from stock map to Map 85678 on the starting line.

this is good feedback and you're right, it's going to come down to the honesty policy. if i rank well, i'd want to be proud of it....

i'm going to try to stay stock for now, and then work on suspension and get a tune once i'm ready to jump straight to BSP.

p.s. XaeRyan - my dad had a mid 80's scirocco in tornado red... i knew it was such a hot car even back then when i was like 9yrs old haha!
