135i Engine Harness
Last week, some little vermin decided that my wires are just too tasty:
Little bugger actually ate through the wires. SES light came on the next day. I cobbled together some crimp-on butt-end connectors, (4) foot-long 16 gauge wires, and heat-shrink tubing: 2 days later the SES light went off, so I think it worked. Now, it sounds like the comprehensive policy on my car will cover a new harness. According to the dealer, they pull the engine to install it! So, while I don't expect a full-on DIY how-to, I'm wondering a few things from those of you experienced in this type of thing: Is 12517635393 the correct part for my 2012 N55 135i engine wiring harness? (can provide VIN last 7 if needed.) Is it really necessary to remove the engine in order to access all the connectors and attachment points to replace the harness? Is it worth having the dealer (or my trusted independent mechanic) go through that to get the proper wires in there - taking into consideration that things might never be the same? IF I do follow through and have the engine pulled, what affected components / known weak spots should I have them replace while it's out? (Motor mounts? Water pump? Bearings? Other? 50k miles on the car, just purchased in June, warranty has expired, everything in there except the charge pipe is original, and is currently not giving me any trouble.) Thanks for the help! |

That is my fear. Insurance just came out to look at it. Expect a decision, on their end, tomorrow. |
