Do I need a tune for Downpipe

Hi All,

This may be a stupid question but since I don't know i figure this is the place to ask. I have a 2011 N55 135i w/ dct. I have a BMW PPK1 on it now and am going to be putting a down pipe on it. I heard somewhere that if I don't have a tune that is tuning the car basically with that down pipe in mind I'm doing to run into issues. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks in advance.

You don't need one but you won't get the full benefit without one.

Catless. I don't mind a code, I can clear that with my can tool when necessary but I just want to make sure I won't run into trouble running the downpipe with just the PPK.

I've been running a down pipe with no tune for the last 3 months. I only throw a code every couple of weeks and it takes 10 seconds to clear it with my P3 gauge.

Ok. I'm sure you would get more gains with a tune but do you feel gains?

Yes, you'll feel gains.

IMO, if you're going to spend the money for a DP you mine as well save a little bit more for a tune. You'll be able to correctly have the correct Air to Fuel mix ratio and not run into codes or perhaps other issues that could give you more serious issues...although rare.

Getting a tune, and keeping the boost at stock level, you will make more power. It is the nature of a downpipe.

Tune it. I ran a catless downpipe for a couple months with no tune, the car idled like crap, sometimes so bad that it would just stall out sitting at a light.

I have my stock downpipe in now until i get a tune.
