2018 Winter wheel/tire thread
Hi Folks!
I'm biting the bullet and taking my 2013 135i through it's first winter. She has 37K miles now and is pretty much stock minus Dinan S2, PE, and a M factory LSD. Anyways... the tire shop talked me into putting 18" snow tires on my stock wheels. They will switch them back for 25$ in the spring fall as long as I go back. Great local shop, worked directly with the owner. If any of yalls are in the Milwaukee area check out Big Bear Tire. I went with these tires at all 4 corners: Kinda jacked to get out drifting . . . |

Was considering those when Discount Tire had the $100 off $400 on ebay deal but I really couldn't find much information on them.
Similar to an older design that has much lower wet performance which is important in slushy NJ winters. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Br...zzak-LM001.htm Any reason you didn't go with the Alpin PA4's? Also, it shot back up to 70 degrees this week so good thing I didn't put them on when it was 30 last week! |

Tire shop guy recommended these or some cheaper Yokohama's. Another option was the Blizzak WS80. We don't get real bad winters here in Milwaukee. It's just cold and salty for a few months with an occasional decent snow storm. Nothing like the blizzards on the east side of the great lakes.

Use Nokian Hakkappellitta (spelling is wrong) R2 on the 135i with some 17" rims from an E46 I believe. Picture below.
The X3 uses Blizzak WS80. Both are great, great tires. For winter mats/liners I used WeatherTech before but can't deal with having plastic liners... sold them and use FindWay liners on both cars. Last edited by ________; 12-19-2018 at 01:53 PM.. |

I'm running WS80s for winter tires on a spare set of 264 wheels. Bought the 264 wheels used off a forum member. They're rashed up a bit but I don't care. Like the ability to just worry about mounting the tires one time and then swapping wheels when ever I see fit.

I've driven my car year round for the 3 and a half years I've had it. You'll find that it is surprisingly capable in the snow with winter tires.
I run 17" MSW wheels with 205/50r17 blizzaks I believe this is the standard wheel and tire size recommended by BMW for these cars

Blizzaks are great, and the factory rubber mats are pretty good too!

snow tires
Also in need of very good snow tires and have a choice.
New Dunlop Winter Maxx tires from local Goodyear Dealer or slightly used (one season less than 1000 miles) WS 80 Blizzacks from a guy on Craigslist. The Blizzacks are 225/50 R17 and spec size for the 128i is 205/50 R17. Should fit my car I believe. Price is the same for both...about $550.00. Install will be extra of course. I like both tires (would really like Nokians but can't afford them) and would value your opinions. Last edited by JIM1inWisconsin; 11-04-2018 at 10:35 AM.. |

If you go with 225/50 17 they will likely rub. If you go with 225/45 that's ok. If you can't go with Nokian, go with the WS80, they're great. They're very very noisy though, and make the car consume more fuel. Just bear that in mind because maybe your difference in price to the Nokians May be offset by the fuel consumption. Cheers |

I have Blizzaks on crappy steel wheels for the winter.
Of course my car has never seen snow but the OEM run-flats are terrible when it gets old out. I don't recall the size but it was the package that Tire Rack recommended. Overall I am a big fan of Blizzaks and have used them on several cars.

I got Pirelli Sottozero 3s for $56 after the rebate from Tire Rack. 225/45/17. They are old, real old. From 2015. Got some 17x8 rims from an E46 off craigslist. Not the prettiest, but they hold air and three are true. The fourth is good enough for now. They will be replaced soon. The big expense was the TPMS from Discount

I like to use runflats in the winter, so I'm running Blizzak LM-25's.

I use Antares tires from Mavis Discount Tire. Cheap and they work. I had Blizzaks on the old Jetta. Best Snow Tires ever! I was passing SUV's in VT in total control.

I eventually decided on Nokian Nordman 7's. No studs as they are illegal in Wisconsin.
Great price, $533.00 plus install. |

Looking to pick up an E90 as a second winter car. Will be putting the Nordman 7 on it as well. |
