its from the drain hole in the weather stripping. After im done drying i open up both doors and let it drain out (while im wiping down the door jams. once they have both fully drained, you can wipe up the remaining drips and be worry free till the next rain

if it gives you a hard time, a quick shot of Tarminator on a MF cloth takes it off with one swipe. However you should probably apply wax/seal again to the area you cleaned after using the Tarminator.

even on a black car this residue sucks. SGM shows it too- I notice it.

I used to think it was the cosmoline but not anymore. My car is 2 years old and I have tried cleaning the bottom of the doors and the rockers several times. I've used some strong cleaners...clay...polish and it still comes back. I think the dirt and sirty road water collect in there and drain out the lowest point leaving behind the residue. Mine comes off fairly easy...just using my wash mitt and normal car soap work fine. When my car was brand new it was most likely cosmoline. Back then it required some serious effort to get it off!

I get an oily residue, I guess it could be black (car is dark blue), leaking down out of my door when it rains or when I wash it, and down my rocker panels. It's annoying, I usually just leave the door open for a while when washing so everything drips out.

I really don't like frame-less doors like ours. I had in both my previous frame-less coupes. Seems much easier for greater amounts of water to get in there carrying dirt and grime there in with them, and then leaks out the bottom. I had forgotten how much I had this setup until I got my 135i, and was annoyingly reminded. Maybe the drain hole/s need to be made bigger to drain quicker. You wash and dry your car, but the drain doesn't do it's thing until the car is moved/driven, then it starts to drain and uglify what was once beeootyful |

I think it is due to the design of the rocker panel under the door. The lowest spot is in the middle of the door so the water and dirt go there and run down the side panel. Most rocker panels wold drain towards the front of the car or be straight and then the water either drains off the end or it just gets spread out along the length of the panel. I would think the car would have looked cool if they had the rockert panel be 6inches tall at the rear and only 2 inches at the front.

Hmm. FWIW, I have a BSM 2010 135i (with only 1700 miles) but I haven't noticed that residue yet and it's been detailed once, washed several times with ONR and driven in the rain a couple of times.
