New VANOS! Went with Gates, we’ll see how they do……might’ve been the simplest job I’ve done on this car

It was time to bleed the brakes/change the fluid. I bought one of those power bleeders, which is so handy. Makes the job a snap (more on snaps in a minute…).
Anyway, rear brakes go fine and I foolishly thought “Man, I’m gonna be done in about a half hour. FINALLY, something wasn’t a struggle with this car”. So that sealed the deal, obviously. I get to the front right and the frigging nipple sheared off. Using nothing but my skinny little arm and a tiny ratcheting box wrench. I guess the only good part of this shit show was that the part of the nipple seized in the calliper didn’t loosen off, so I can still drive the car until I can figure out how I’ll sort this out. Take the calliper off and then use heat, banging and a screw extractor? Who knows. I’ll give it a shot because those callipers are expensive to replace. If I didn’t have bad luck I wouldn’t have any luck at all. Hah. |

In the future, what has always worked for me is giving the bleeder a couple of sharp taps straight down onto it with a metal hammer before trying to loosen them. Also, if they look at all crusty, replace them. Years of Volvos in New England with multiple bleeders per caliper meant I got good at it. And Peugeots with tiny 7mm ATE bleeders made of French silly putty <shudder>.

Did some last-minute work before shipping the car off to CA. New water pump, T-stat, and billet Mickey Mouse flange went in. Job wasn't too bad once I caved (removing the BMWPI is a colossal PIA compared to the stock intake) and pulled the rad fan. No clue how the job is possible with the fan in unless you're a Tetris champ with slim jims for arms.
Also attempted to install my E93 front sway bar, but after beating the hell outta the bushings for an hour I realized I got the ones for the E90/E92 M3 bar. Oh well, looks like the bar is gonna take a scenic cross-country ride in the trunk. To-do list is thinning out. Only major items are to get my FSB on, tighten up the parking brake, and install my Isudar speakers and subs. Maybe diff bushings too if I can channel enough masochism to tackle the job. New hood roundel. The plastic strap method worked like a charm, lifted it right off in like two seconds. Fog lights in the future to round out my front end cosmetic refresh.

I adjusted the parking brakes. Ever since I acquired Little Red (2011 128i) in October, the parking brake handle had to be cranked way up (11-13 clicks) to be secure, but was never a real problem as long as I also put it in R or 1st. I visited my parents this week - first time Little Red made the trip - and they live on a steep hill and even at max the parking brake was not secure (so in addition to putting it in R, I turned the wheels and butted up against the curb).
But, I knew it was time to tackle adjustment. I followed one of the online DIY videos (below) and was able to tighten it up a bit - got it to 6 clicks to secure and 8 for rock solid. Of course, I would prefer to redo the entire system with new . . . so, added to the list.

Well, 3rd times the charm.. replaced my HPFP, rail sensor and finally my LPFP to a Walbro 450.. that fixed my low fuel pressure issue. Me being the retard that I am, could see the FP looked better at idle but wanted to road test, went out for 25mins (it was working).. well I didn't button down either sides of my fender liners and shredding them both.. luckily I have a new right one to go on... just ordered the left today 🤣🤣🤣 ffs.

Isudar speakers and subs went in. Massive improvement over the stock Hi-Fi system. Also threw in my 3rd damn RDC module. Fingers crossed my dislodged filler neck gasket was the culprit.

No. I've tried giving them a refresh but they still look like crap. I'm just gonna get a couple new ones. Probably TYC or DEPO.

More like, what has my 2008 128i done for me? 240,001 New England miles as my daily driver for the past 11 years! Granted, I just did a COMPLETE suspension rebuild with M3 upgrades front and rear, along with Koni yellows and Swft springs...and all 11 bushings in the rear subframe replaced while I had it out. Original clutch,
and engine still pulls strong. It's a blast to drive!! Great car!! |

I put the black 18s back on the 135 and the stock 17s on the Z3. No more bat-mobile.

I've been thinking about black or anthracite rims on my Space Gray metallic 135. Yours look pretty good.

Third Brake Light Issue
Quote:
I ordered a replacement, however, the replacement has a tab on the underside of the light that prevents it from fitting in the trunk lid. My parts source has assured me that they sent me the correct part. But I'm not convinced. From whom did you order your third brake light? Thanks! |
