APEX Forged VS-5RS 18" 1 series fitments incoming:
Hey All,
I wanted to give you a quick heads-up before we went into the weekend: After quite a bit of development time and back and forth on these wheels, we are releasing VS-5RS forged wheels for the 1 series. The fitments are going to be 18x8.5 ET40 front, and 18x9.5 ET58 rear. This is a familiar combination to many with an offset in-between our ET45 and ET35s for the front wheel. It's slightly less ideal for completely stock cars but offers more room for anyone running aftermarket suspension that reduces inner clearance around the front suspension. The 18x8.5 ET40 can also of course be run square. Many of you have already seen this car on 17" wheels, but here's a taste of the design on this chassis in a smaller diameter: 17x9 ET42 square shown above Pledging for the 18" Group Buy is open and includes these wheels and the Fitment Guide is updated. The wheels are arriving in May. While we weren't initially going to include them in the Group Buy, we wanted to give the 1 series community the opportunity to join the Ongoing deal and lock in a discount on these wheels, especially those of you who have been waiting since our original release. I hope you enjoy these wheels and are as excited about them as I am. I'll have more news and content around these fitments in the future but let me know if you have questions about these wheels and I'll dive into them next week. -Tom

How does the brake clearance compare to an SM-10? I'm about to do an AP CP9668 BBK on my "135" (with M3 knuckles, etc.) and was told the 18x8.5 et35 SM-10s I have are about the only non M3/1M wheel that will fit, but that VS-5RS is super sexy and the et40 would definitely be better...

Those are absolutely gorgeous! I don't usually prefer a square setup looks-wise, but I LOVE how much meat is on those tires!

I talked to someone at Apex a little while ago and they confirmed it should fit with my current SM-10s. My car is essentially a 1M/E9x M3 at both ends but still has the 135 body panels. The 18x8.5 et35 SM-10s juuuust fit in the front with 3.5 degrees of camber but it would definitely be nice to go to a et40. That would allow me to either eliminate rubbing with a 245/40R18 or, run a 255. |

We have the clearances of this kit done against most of the M3 fitments, but not 1 series. -Tom

Green C denotes clears in all directions with no spacers needed or barrel clearance issues. I found your email to our support team on 10/4/22. Geirsen didn't have the data for the M3 kit VS the 8.5" wheels on hand but he confirmed that the AP/Essex kit for the non-m e9x chassis cleared, which it does. The M3 kit on the other hand needs the spacers for the 9668 version as that caliper is thicker. While it's nice to have that massive endurance pad in the calipers, the 9660 would be easier to run if you stick with the M3 kits. Again, caveats in your case if something is slightly different from the M3 assembly. Hope that helps. -Tom

It's also interesting that the 9668 kit needs more spacer with the VS-5RS, but with the 9660 kit it needs less(no) spacer with the VS-5RS. |

Thanks for another excellent option in one series offsets. Quick question, Will these clear the F8 M3/M4, 380 mm brakes?

Additionally what offset and width do you recommend for 1M clone bodywork and nonM rear subframe track width. I'm assuming 9.5et22 it's still the front spec.

Other kits might not share the exact same clearances if the calipers sit in a slightly different place. -Tom

This car is running that exact fitment: https://apexwheels.com/gallery/bmw/1...port-gold-1351 If you want a less aggressive front wheel, you can go to a ET28 9.5. If the car is going to be track-focused, 18x10 ET25 square is a good option provided you've got enough camber dialed in up front via camber plates. -Tom

Yeah, it's a great gold IMO. Its also available in the standard offsets for the normal 1 series fenders so you don't need a 1M conversion to get that color.

They are not, we're still producing the 18x8.5 ET45 and 18x9.5 ET58 in our ARC-8 and EC-7 design specifically for the E82 along with the 17x9 ET52.
