Anti Trap Error
BMW 2010 Coupe:
Got the window Anti-trap error and my passenger window now won't work at all. Luckily it was fully up at the time it stopped. The window module works, there's power to all the plugs for the window as I checked them, bought a new regulator with motor, that didn't work. Tried disconnecting the battery, holding the key down, tried holding the window button down and up for periods to reset. Also cleared all the errors (no anti trap error showed up). Nothing has worked? Anyone had this before and managed to get the window working again??? It wont move at all I can hear the click down by my left foot inside the OBD door when pressing the window, but no movement. I noticed that my passenger mirror doesn't move either. |

There are some good ideas in this thread - take a look:
https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1534412 I don't have an answer but just a couple of days ago, someone tried to get out of my car and the passenger door wouldn't unlock. I am getting a bit tired of these little things breaking left and right. |

Ah sorry, it was a joke (maybe not a funny one). I'm about at that point where each time something breaks I dream of what else I could be enjoying instead of my car and thought you might be of similar mindset. It's well-established on this forum and elsewhere that I'm no help!

Is the mirror somehow connected to the window? My drivers window folds every time I start the car but the window has never had an issue. I would like to understand the mirrors power/motor system better.

Having done the Focal speaker upgrades to the stock speakers, I don't see how anyone can get the tweeter pod/cover off without removing the door card.

Maybe, on a lot of bmw you can, not sure about the 1 series off hand.
the mirror motors can short out and cause the window motor to not communicate with the FRM (they’re both connected on the same BUS system) |

I unplugged the mirror and still nothing. The window did not move at all. Held it down and anti trap comes on as per usual. Could it be a Footwell module issue? Would I need the footwell module looked at and repaired or something?? Any other ideas??

So in the door jamb near the door hinges there is a bulkhead connector for the door harness. I would unplug it and see if there is any corrosion or anything in the connector. Like I said before the mirror and window mirror are on something called a LIN bus, if it gets shorted out or anything neither one will work. It’s somewhat common for a wire to get pinched or a connector get corroded in the door harness. |

Thanks so much for your help! Really appreciate it! You have a lot of knowledge.
Took it to BMW and they put their scanner on it which showed a wiring connection issue with the fuses. We didn't even think about the fuses as no error was coming up and nothing came up on the our scanner. When I installed my rear tail lights (blacklines) The right tail light running light wouldn't come on and we though maybe it was a fuse or something, so we took some fuses out to check and putting them back in we must have put them in the wrong location and as the 1 series the fuse box is deep in the glove box you can't exactly see which fuse is which so that made it difficult. Should always do one fuse at a time to check for anything. Never two at a time! BMW service guy is going to send us the fuse box diagram also as the one that comes with the car is terrible, doesn't explain anything (that's because they want you to take the car back to them so they can make the money). As soon as we changed fuses the window started working perfect! Also the right tail was a defective unit I got sent. Once I got a new one it was plug and play so both my blacklines are perfect. The mirror however I think the issue with that is the drivers side switch is a little stuffed. the switch to go left doesn't go all the way left and when you push it left as far as possible it still moves the right mirror when trying to move it. So I'll open it up and see if it can be moved or just get a new switch to solve it |
